1st Century Christian martyrs: slaughtered by lions. 21st Century...
...Christian martyrs: sometimes forced to listen to others say "Happy Holidays" at the WalMart checkout line.

This contrast captures the lunacy of the latest manifestation of the Christian victimhood movement: the so- called "War on Christmas"

For the past month, loud mouthed, self-described Christians have taken to the airwaves to denounce an imagined "war" on their precious right to be free from exposure to other cultures and mores in the channels of public commerce during the Christmas season. When one considers the time money and effort which the Christo-Right has plowed in to this phony war, it is essential to note that these resources could have been channeled into the truly Christian missions of feeding the poor and healing the sick. But alas, these men need to be seen and heard and exalted as Christian leaders and this issue, as goofy as it is, was the one they settled on.

As we ready ourselves to celebrate the REAL reason for Christmas, lets recall what Jesus said about the loud, brash self-righteous preachers of his day:

Matthew 6:5 And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.

Matthew 6: 6 But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.

So to all of you Christian DUers... enter into thy closets, say a prayer for the Prince of Peace, and Have a Merry Christmas!

5. "...their precious right to be free from exposure to other cultures and
mores..." speaks for itself. The idea of a war on Christmas is a silly and continual perpetration on the Public. Be spiritual if you can. Forgive as you must. But accept not the prattling of these fundies.

10. "right to be free from exposure to other cultures" -- well said!!
Husb often cites the difference between what he calls "vertical praying" and "horizontal praying." Vertical praying is between someone and their God, directly. Horizontal praying is about making sure other people hear you pray...

Merry Christmas to you! :hi:

... I wrote a cartoon, which upon completion, I sent back.

I think it captures the essence of uberChristianity in its modern carnation, the in-your-face, God is on our side of the war, rightwing God Squader.
