Liberals: making our lives and our stocks less safe?
That was the title of the discussion on Fox News earlier today.
If you can't get your base in line by making them fear for their lives, make them fear for their wallets too.

Anyway, I hope everyone here knows that the stock market does MUCH, MUCH better under democratic presidents.

1. This is what Hitler did before he started arresting Jews.
Edited on Sat Dec-24-05 12:25 PM by Kralizec
He said that they were responsible for economic problems, and getting rid of them would help economic problems.

Whether it is true or not (because we all know that the Jewish ppl were NOT a economic problem in Germany), it does not matter. It matters only if the people believe what they are saying.

CAUTION!

This isn't something I would be laughing about.

4. Fox News IS laughable
It's the freakshow circus, come to town to titillate. And yes, we do need to laugh at anyone who might imply "liberals" should be dealt with. To take them seriously gives them legitimacy.

15. Of course WE don't take them literally, but it is the NUTS that do
take Faux News seriously that seriously worry me.

16. The rhetoric must stop,
Edited on Sat Dec-24-05 02:53 PM by Kralizec
because some people are taking this stuff seriously. We're on the same side, but don't just dismiss this stuff with a laugh... I honestly and passionately believe that it is something to take more serious...

I just heard O'Lielly last night calling the students who "silenced" Ann Coulters, Nazis. Of course he wouldn't know that the Nazi were extremely right-wing conservative (of course he knows that!). The sad thing is that many of the viewers believe this crap and they are getting riled up into a frenzy, day after day.

It must stop. Fox must be investigated and forced to close.

edit: typo

17. Around 2 million Americans watch O'reilly, about 290 million don't
And don't forget that Coulter, Limbaugh etc LOVE the negative attention they get. They hate being ignored and laughed at.

20. That was 60 years ago. Women couldn't vote 80 years ago.
Bloodletting used to be a popular method of healing. Smoking was once considered healthy. While we aren't living in anything remotely close to a utopia, things are quite a bit different now.

I can go into a bookstore and buy a bunch of books about how much Bush sucks, I can go online and read forums about how much Bush sucks, I can go on TV and talk about how much Bush sucks. We are not living in Germany in the 1930s. I find your Nazi comparisons to be a bit much.

Does Bush abuse his power? Absolutely. Do republicans often want to sacrifice our civil rights in the name of "protecting us?" Yes. Should we fight them every step of the way? Yes. But if you think that Fox News needs to be shut down because they are leading the charge to have us put in concentration camps, I am not buying it.

Your point has been made on me over and over. I know the ratio is HUGE.

Just keep the eyes open on this one, ok. It won't hurt you.

28. What do you want me to do? I can't close Fox News.
So far, I haven't even been able to persuade a website to find-and-post a clip of the show described in the original post.

29. I didn't see the show in question, but I have seen that the meme
of "The bad economy is Liberals fault, etc...." in other places. When I was at a bookstore doing some shopping, there were a few books along those lines.

And then of course there is O'Lielly calling the ppl that shut Coulter up "Nazis, because that's what they are, Nazis."

I understand most of this is laughable. I recognize that point. But I'll never rest easy until hatred like this is not broadcast anymore.

5. Fox News: making our lives and our stocks less safe?
Fox News Business Blockheads, they pump their own stocks, they bash the ones they're short, and they're wrong on almost every call they make.

If they weren't blaming us for every bit of bad news, and giving themselves credit for every bit of good news, they'd have no show.

Repubs don't know diddly about money, except how to take it. Democrats understand work and working people, which is why we plan these things better.

7. I watched it for a few minutes for the absurdity
And it was absurd.
The title box read "Spying on Americans good for stocks?"
Another teaser something like "Is it time to destroy the unions?" kept coming up too, but I had to switch the channel before I got nauseous.
It usually only takes seconds, today I lasted minutes.
The title shots should be a keeper for C&L's

Happy birthday, Jesus

Geez.. you need to go with me! Mine hasn't had Faux on once since I made a complaint a couple years ago.

Speak up and shut Faux out! It only takes a second to ask, and if they're decent people.. they'll listen!

8. this analysis is admitedly simplistic
it doesn't take into account total return (dividends are up under shrub, e.g., due to his idiotic tax treatment of dividends).
it doesn't take into account inflation
it doesn't take any lag into account (it's hard to give a president credit/blame for market performance in his first quarter or even first year).

etc.

that being said, even far more sophisticated analyses all point to the same conclusion: the broad markets and the economy at large tend to perform much better under democrats. republicans administrations are more lucratic only for a select few individuals and industries, most notably defense and energy.

12. It may be simplistic, but that is the best way to deal with simple minded
investors who think republicans = great for stock market, democrats = bad for stock market.

26. Dividends are only significant for big investors (the rich). For small
investors (the middle class), it's the stock price going up which matters.

27. well, if the analysis is based the the DOW index
then dividends matter because dow stocks nearly always pay dividends.

most small investors should NOT put their money disproportionally into dow stocks.
so yes, dividends matter more for the rich, but they are a part of total return and so should always be considered.

31. Future Millionaires
There is that wonderfully twisted dynamic of americans voting for tax breaks for millionaires since they plan on crawling out of their dead-end jobs and becoming part of the super-rich.

Don't ask them how, and why do you hate america? Why wont you accept that yes even Joe Six-pack will be rich some day...
