Pataki's Pirro problem
Jeanine Pirro's less than graceful exit from the race to take on Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton next year has left Republican Gov. George Pataki with a big problem given his desire to be taken seriously on the national stage.

After all, it was Pataki and his allies who encouraged the high-profile Westchester County district attorney to enter the race for the GOP Senate nomination, which she did on Aug. 8.

.......

"It's bad for George Pataki because, if on his way out, if he can't take on the nemesis of the national Republican Party in his own home state, how can he wage a campaign nationally?" Democrat Hank Sheinkopf had said two weeks ago.

On Wednesday, as Pirro dropped out of the Senate race, Sheinkopf said: "The national Republican Party will not be happy at the failure of New York state Republicans to be able to credibly attack the No. 1 enemy of the Republican Party."

2. Will Guilliani jump into the race?
You know they're scheming away in some booth at Rao's Restaurant, or maybe in one of the elegant suites at Bloomberg Tower..

There's no way they won't put up the best possible candidate they can find to try and knock out Hillary.

He'd never get the Republican presidential nomination.. but how would he do in the senate race?
