Getting bullied in God's name
The compelling and rip-snorting ruling by a federal district judge against teaching "intelligent design" in public schools ought to end the drive to wedge religion into classrooms but, of course, it won't.

The well-heeled campaign to drum intelligent design's pseudoscience will continue undeterred - in effect, a campaign to persuade the public that science and faith can't coexist, each in its proper sphere.

A huge Creation Museum is rising near Cincinnati, a $25 million project, with four-fifths of its funding collected from public contributions.

It teaches that Earth is just 6,000 years old, that T. rex and his kind gamboled in Eden and that after the flood, children still played with baby dinosaurs, which had ridden Noah's ark to safety from the antediluvian world.

Against such drama, mere science is an unwelcome bother.

1. People who bully in God's name
use that Name in vain, because they are using it to further their own power, period. I'm glad that the construction of that museum will give some working folks a job during the winter, but I have a feeling it will become the laughinstock of the nation and a bit of an embarrassment to the community-sort of like when some entrepenuers came to this part of Arkansas and erected an Al Capp style theme park and pursuaded the citizens of Marble Falls to rename their community Dogpatch. The amusement park is long gone, and the people are stuck with an embarrassing name.

2. It didn't even slow them down.
I just heard a comment from one of the IDiots on NPR claiming that this just taught them that they have to focus on attacking Darwin and his theory.

Once they have convinced people that Darwin was wrong, it will leave the door open to teaching creationism, or ID, which is the preferred term of the chronically ignorant.

3. The right will do anything to get religion in schools.
They will lie more and they will spend more.

4. Just imagine what they could do with that amount of money that
would really help people. They could open some homeless shelters, fund battered women's agencies, get healthcare for kids - all the stuff Jesus said to do. Instead they pour money into this worthless tripe that the Bible says nothing about. There is NOTHING in the Bible telling us to promote or defend creationism. Jesus says NOT ONE word on the topic.

Yet there are hundreds of verses that condemn those who do not help the poor, and order government to help the poor and less fortunate.
