‘Exhausted’ Bush, GOP scale back ambitions
http://www.freenewmexican.com/news/36872.html

By Janet Hook Los Angeles Times |
December 26, 2005

WASHINGTON — For the White House and the Republican-controlled Congress, the tumult of 2005 has been an object lesson in the political risks of thinking big.

Bush began the year with grand ambitions to overhaul the sacrosanct Social Security program, rewrite the entire tax code, retain expanded law-enforcement powers to fight terrorism and bring stability to war-torn Iraq — and fell far short, dividing his own party and taking a beating in the polls.

Chastened by the experience and eager to play it safe in an election year, Republicans now are preparing for a new year of thinking small...

“This is an exhausted administration,” said Michael Tanner, an analyst with the libertarian Cato Institute who has worked with the White House to promote the failed Social Security plan. “It’s going to be very hard for this administration to come out with a big new initiative.”...

5. yes it is hard work for the chimp
HOW MANY MORE GEORGIE, HOW MANY MORE?

Long Time Gone Lyrics

It's been a long time comin'
It's goin' to be a long time gone.
And it appears to be a long,
Appears to be a long,
Appears to be a long time,
Yes, a long, long, long, long time,
Before the dawn.

Turn, turn any corner.
Hear, you must hear what the people say,
You know there's something that's goin' on around here,
That surely, surely, surely won't stand the light of day.
And it appears to be a long, (yes it does)
Appears to be a long,
Appears to be a long time,
Such a long, long, time,
Before the dawn.

Speak out, you got to speak out against the madness
You got to speak your mind,
If you dare.
But don't, no don't no try to get yourself elected.
If you do you had better cut your hair.
And it appears to be a long, (yes it does)
Appears to be a long
Appears to be a long time,
Such a long, long, long, long time,
Before the dawn.

It's been a long time comin',
It's going to be a long time gone.
But you know, the darkest hour,
Is always, always just before the dawn.
And it appears to be a long,
Appears to be a long,
Appears to be a long time,
Such a long, long, long, long time before the dawn

- Crosby Stills Nash Young

27. We know no such thing - TX BBQ is extremely OVERRATED.
Just like everything in that whole braggart state.

I am sooo sick of texas and texas repuke politicians.

Maybe if there is a string of good DEMOCRATIC texas legislators, then I'll change my mind.

But I am, along with our entire nation and the world, way over anything and everything that has to do with texas.

Apologies to all my texas friends and immediate family, as always.

16. Well, it looks like I got my Xmas present.
You know what they say about exhausted administrations? They're ineffective. They're no good. They get nothing done.

And this is exactly what we've seen. A Time Magazine article said "they're great at campaigning, but terrible at governing". They are the ultimate "one-trick pony".

I love it! And sure enough, on the Mike Malloy show, he played some clips of Bush right before Xmas. Bush sounded absolutely ridiculous, worse than usual. He stammered, stuttered, he sounded drunk.

No wonder.

It doesn't mean that they will ever stop.

Now the Democrats need to kick them while they're down - kick 'em real good and hard.

Under no circumstances should we assume they have indeed "scaled back" or "given up".

Edited on Tue Dec-27-05 05:30 AM by Hekate
Too true. Bushco's neocon plans are very long-range, and there are plenty more neocons waiting in the wings, appointed to the federal bench, and generally just waiting their own chance.

If we manage to get rid of them, or at least break their hold on Congress, we would be wise to consider the neocon/theocrat/corporatist threat as something akin to Sauron. Recall that at the end of the Lord of the Rings, Sauron is defeated but not dead. Tolkien makes it plain that Evil does not die.

"Eternal vigilance is the price we pay for freedom."

This is where Bush**Co has failed. They cannot begin their thought processes with anything but the perverted, arrogant premise that they have the RIGHT to decide how the rest of the world is going to behave, in all details, in all ways, at all times. And that nobody is allowed to act against them, or even express a different point of view. Starting from such premises, of course they have headed straight to disaster. From such a starting point, disaster is the nearest destination in almost every direction.
