Parties ready to rumble over Frist's Senate seat
Sen. Bill Frist will not seek a third term next year and a crowd of candidates is already fighting over his seat.

Former Chattanooga Mayor Bob Corker was the first to jump in the Senate race back in 2004. The other major Republican candidates are former U.S. Reps. Van Hilleary and Ed Bryant.

The Democrats, who are optimistic about taking the seat back from the Republicans, will choose between state Sen. Rosalind Kurita and U.S. Rep. Harold Ford Jr.

With so many in the Senate race, there aren't many Republicans left to take on incumbent Democratic Gov. Phil Bredesen.

.......

Vanderbilt political science professor Bruce Oppenheimer said the gubernatorial primaries would not be competitive, which will put the spotlight on the Senate races.

"It's hard to tell how competitive the governor's race is going to be when there isn't even an announced major Republican candidate," he said.

3. I've met Van Hilleary
when he was a law student.

Hmmm. (Am I gonna get sued for thinking what I'm thinking?)

I'm thinking Harold Ford can win this seat.
