I've decided to start e-mailing and calling my congressman every day. This is something I can do, and hopefully it will at least make him think about where his true priorities lie:
Dr. Schwartz,
You swore to uphold the Constitution when you took office. The Constitution is under attack, sir, and we need to know, as your constituents, that you will defend it.
Our military is quartering troops in Iraq, which is against the Bill of Rights and is something our founding fathers and mothers fought and died to prevent.
Our President has repeatedly lied to the American people about who is influencing his administration's decisions and about how we are at war.
Our troops are now saying that we are at war in Syria and that Iran is next. Why has Congress not voted on this?
Our President authorized illegal spying of American citizens and deliberately went against the Constitution in doing so. Perhaps you, sir, as a moderate Republican, were a target. The numbers they are only now admitting to are staggering. If they would spy on Hans Blix, members of the UN Security Council, and the Quakers, why wouldn't they spy on you or your constituents as well?
You swore to uphold and defend the most sacred document in our country, not the GOP or the Bush administration. The Constitution is a living document, one that keeps this nation of sovereign states together in times of war and crisis and times of peace. Many lives have been shed to keep us truly free, and many lives were shattered in trying to win freedom from tyranny.
Please don't forget those lives or those witnesses to freedom. Please make it known that you will not stand for a president who breaks the law and shreds the Constitution. Please sign on Congressman Conyers's bill to investigate impeachment and do your duty to this great nation.
Sincerely, K4D
