Mitt Romney, "The Smiling Cobra" ..........Wolcott
Edited on Sat Dec-31-05 03:46 PM by KoKo01
Smiling Cobra
Posted by James Wolcott

Pleasuring himself at the break of dawn with a profile of The Corner's dream bridegroom, Mitt Romney, John J. Miller posts:

"MITT!

John J. Miller
The Wall Street Journal's "Weekend Interview"

"Key graf: 'Mr. Romney could be an attractive presidential candidate. His sunny disposition puts one in mind of Ronald Reagan--he laughs easily and smiles almost continuously. He is a governor, as four of the past five presidents were; but he can claim more international experience than most state executives. In addition to his work on the Olympics, he has served on the federal Homeland Security Advisory Council, chairing its working group on intelligence and information sharing.'

Here's a non-key graf I find more instructive:

"Asked if he disagrees with prospective rival John McCain's proposal to ban 'cruel, inhuman and degrading' interrogation of terrorists in U.S. custody, he demurs: 'I'm not a senator; haven't looked at his act.' When I persist, he says, 'Would you like me to do an analysis of that for you?'--a rare flash of sarcasm, albeit delivered with a smile."

Sarcasm delivered with a smile--who does that remind you of?

Bush, of course. The air of entitlement and arrogance armored in an executive blue suit. Press him the least little bit for an answer and you're deflected with a sharp flicker of contempt contained in a tight little smile.

1. I know I'll always enjoy a
James Wolcott article and this one was especially pungent!

These religious types stink to high "heaven" with hypocricy..I bet they never met a killing they couldn't rationalize.

3. Gag me
Edited on Sat Dec-31-05 04:24 PM by FreedomAngel82
I saw a few minutes of him on "Road to the White House" when Mark Warner was on there in South Carolina and I thought I was going to gag. They didn't show the whole room (when I watched) so I don't know how many people were there. They had to end his event because of a fire alarm. He's not bad at public speaking but you could tell he was reading from a script and when to do actions and whatnot. I don't think he'd get it since he isn't fundie enough I've read and he's from the north. I think they'd get John McCain before they would him.

4. Smiling cobra is a good analogy
Because he is a lying snake, with apologies to actual slithering reptiles everywhere. The only reason he won the governorship of Massachusetts was because he campaigned as a moderate. But he is just another right-wing neocon, and the voters here have finally figured that out. If he did run for reelection as governor, he'd lose in a landslide.

5. What worries me is that our Blue States have Bloomberg/Lieberman/Romney
and they all are loved by their constituents. :eyes:

Yet, I live in a Red State in the South.... Does this mean even our "Blue States" are filled with Conservative, DLC DEMS?

The Repug seem to know better than we do. To them a "DINO DEM" is and "Ace in the hole" to put into place to make a states show BLUE...when it's really PURPLE...

They spend all their time down here in US "Red States" COURTING the Christian Fundamentalists...very RW ones and making it seem that the South and Mid-West/West are more RED than the Northeast which seems to support very well Bush's FAKE STOCK MARKET AND ECONOMIC POLICIES.

Only difference I see with Blue States against us Red Staters is that ENVIROMENTAL POLICIES seem to be the difference in Blue Vs. Red.

Blue States with Repug Factions seem to draw the line on the Environment...and that keeps them Blue when for all purposes they might fall into Red on Economic issues?

8. Really? Please post sometime about this. I think he will be the Repug 08
nominee....He seems the "perfect" Bush replacement. But, I never could figure out how he got elected in VERY BLUE..Massachusetts in the First Place. He's a Mormon from Utah via California Olympics...right?

11. We like checks and balances here in MA. Seriously we have
a very strong Dem legislature so moderate-seeming Repubs get elected here.

9. Massachusetts can not stand him.
Those who voted for him were charmed and fooled. He is a true snake. He has belittled Massachusetts at every chance. Right on, Rox! We are not amused.

12. What can he run on that went successfully in Mass. since he was
Governor. That's what he will run on. He's charming (folks say) Wolcott things "charming like a snake" and most of you here, think so too.

But the Repugs turned an Idiot in to the "Savior of the World" so who knows what they can do with Romney...given he had that great Olympics. They can make him into a Wealthy FDR to appeal to both sides.

Is Massachusetts worse off today than it was when he became Governor?

14. Mittens has accomplished very little in MA
The state legislature in 87% Democrats, so they can easily defeat anything he proposes, and can overturn anything he vetos. On top of that, he has been travelling the country for the last year dissing the state he governs. People here are mightily pissed at him.

15. Yes. Worse Off.
The ONLY reason Mittens was able to "rescue" the Utah Olympics was because the Olympics were in Utah. Being a native son, he was able to get whatever he needed. This is a non-story and needs to be exposed s such.
Romney has done NO cheerleading for Massachusetts. If nything, he is cheering against us.

ASSHOLE
