O'Reilly / Oberman
Summerize the happening in a few lines of text, or link to text.

Text is that stuff that comes out of your keyboard. It dosnt move or flash. You cant dance to it. But those few of us with dial-up connections and 1993 model computers can actually get some information from text. No shit!

Pleease!

Have Mercy!

Can someone summarize , in a few lines of text what this story is?

All of the DU topics on this intriguing headline, lead to video links (which I cant access) , or references to cable TV which I dont have, or to no doubt COOL downloads which allow persons with MoDERN computers to easily get gleaming, blinking flashing fantastic speedy muli-media video effects..........
which are of no use to me what-so-ever, at this time.

Can someone please just summarize the whole Fallafal-Oberman thing for me.
I would be most grateful.

2. Olbermann has been goading O'Lielly for months now
KO has a segment on his show called "Worst Person in the World" and usually its somebody that's topped the day for rudness, stupidity, or just plain ugly behavior. And he has 3 people: "Worse," "Worser," and "Worst," counting up like that.

O'Reilly has made "Worst" now several times over. O'Reilly has become ever more infurated with KO for this. In fact, he's started a petition to send to MSNBC to get KO kicked off the air. KO takes it all in stride and flings it right back at "The Big Giant Head."

Fast forward to this week. O'Reilly is now so upset at the mere mention of the name "Keith Olberman," that on O'R's radio show on monday, he lashed out at a caller simply for mentioning KO's name! No opinion one way or the other. He just said "Keith Olbermann" and O'R hit the button to delete the call!

Not only that, O'R THREATENED the caller with a call from FOX Security! "We've got your number..."

KO goosed O'R again this week for that, Wednesday I think, calling out O'R for his boorishness yet again.

3. O'Reilly has one problem...
...He broke the law when he threatened the caller. I hope the caller has the balls to stand up and say something.

5. You are correct
I think that caller should charge O'R with harrassment.

Also, isn't it wrong to use company resources (in this case FOX security) for your own personal use?

6. Not only that...
But O'Reilly is the only person to make all three slots on the same night. I also love the way KO calls him "Ted Baxter."

7. What also needs to be "factored" in is O'Reilly's falling ratings.
Edited on Sat Mar-04-06 04:50 PM by rocknation
Between his loof-falafel sex tapes and the fall of the Bush empire's image, the right wing noise machine has slowly but surely been disintergating (check out this DU thread). Meanwhile, Olbermann's ratings have been steadily improving.

4. David Brock's mediamatters.org has transcripts and text
that will allow you to catch up on what's been going on between Olbermann and Bill "Ted Baxter" O'Reilly. Here's a sample of what you can find on Media Matters:

O'Reilly threatened radio show caller with "a little visit" from "Fox security" for mentioning Olbermann's name on the air

Summary: On his nationally syndicated radio show, Bill O'Reilly threatened to turn over the personal information of a caller to "Fox security" because the caller mentioned MSNBC's Keith Olbermann. As Media Matters has noted, in recent weeks, Olbermann has repeatedly awarded O'Reilly the "Worst Person in the World" designation during his show, MSNBC's Countdown with Keith Olbermann.

On the March 2 broadcast of Westwood One's The Radio Factor, host Bill O'Reilly threatened to turn over the personal information of a caller to "Fox security" because the caller mentioned MSNBC's Keith Olbermann. As Media Matters for America has noted, in recent weeks, Olbermann has repeatedly awarded O'Reilly the "Worst Person in the World" designation during his show, MSNBC's Countdown with Keith Olbermann. O'Reilly has responded, on several occasions, by asserting that MSNBC "is a true ratings disaster." The caller began by telling O'Reilly, "I like to listen to you during the day." Continuing, the caller stated, "I think Keith Olbermann's show," at which point O'Reilly disconnected the call, proclaiming: "Mike is -- he's a gone guy. You know, we have his -- we have your phone numbers, by the way. So, if you're listening, Mike, we have your phone number, and we're going to turn it over to Fox security, and you'll be getting a little visit."

If you go to the media matters link (above) look for the search box and type in "Olbermann" and "O'Reilly". Each link is a piece of the puzzle. It's worth it. Believe me. It is worth it.

You might also check into some of the old threads on the Countdown/Keith Olbermann discussion forum here on DU athttp://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topics&forum=315

Enjoy. :hi:

10. I know others have already answered but...
...let me see if I can add to it.

As was already mentioned, O'Reilly frequently makes Keith's Worst Person of the Day.

So that is how this began. Keith usually does point to inconsistencies and factual errors by Fox and O'Reilly is not the only one.

Last week Keith also mentioned that the Sports show he does with Dan Patrick (radio) replaced O'Reilly's radio show.....I think it was in the Atlanta market but I could be wrong about that part.

About a week ago, O'Reilly started a petition on his website. It was addressed to the management of MSNBC to ask them to bring back Donahue and to replace Olbermann with Donahue.

Then yesterday we learned that one of the callers to O'Reilly's radio show this week happened to mention Olbermann's name on the air. O'Reilly immediately released the call and informed the caller that they have his phone number and that Fox security will be contacting him for his offensive behavior.

I heard the call and he did not say or do anything offensive. I'm sure O'Reilly didn't want to hear Keith's name but that still is not offensive nor against any law.

Another issue with this.....the call happened during O'Reilly's radio show so why would Fox news have any authority over this?

Last night Keith interviewed an attorney about legal implications regarding this and she said O'Reilly could be in trouble because the only harrassing behavior came from him, not the caller.

So now you know all that's going on.

Btw, crooksandliars.com has part of the transcript of the caller who was turned over to Fox security.

11. Thank you all!
Thanks for filling me in.
Thats pretty funny.
O'Reilly should be pretty familiar with phone harrassment.

Why is he still on the air?

Blotchy!

14. I'm sure we haven't heard the last of this so stay tuned..........
Olbermann seems to have a good time making fun of O'Reilly and let's face it, O'Reilly gives him so much material so I know there will be more in the future!

Btw, Keith also publishes transcripts of his shows (in case you don't have cable) on his website. Usually it takes them a day to publish the transcripts on the website but you can still read about it there.............
