Would you support Patrick Leahy for Prez?
I am so angry over the reauthorization vote on P1 that Feingold is great but still think he's unelectable as a single, twice divorsed Jewish man.

3. Leahy
won't ever run for President. Great guy. I don't think he wants to put his family through that type of campaign.

14. Right
He would kick ass as a president but I don't think he'd run either. :( And yes as someone else pointed out with JFK being Catholic. If someone doesn't vote for someone because of their religious beliefs is just silly. Kerry's Catholic but yet he got to be the nominee.

5. Hell No on Patrick Leahy
if he can't lead the democrats on the judiciary committee to
have a coherent conversation about Alito he has no leadership
skills to pull a party together. Way Way too timid.
I think not one Senator should be considered simply because of the
sickening Washington effect. They have their heads up their asses
in DC. Excuse my rage but I am very Bitter.
I do love Feingold.

7. Timid? Leahy? LOL
You don't know much about him do you? Did you watch him during the Alito hearing? Leahy's my Senator, and I'm very familiar with his record. Whatever else he is, he's not timid. Having said that, and much as I love the guy for the amazing work he's done, he's more a walk his own path type of guy than a leader.

10. I didn't mean to offend
I adore Leahy but I swear to god, those hearings were incoherent.
I'm not a single issue voter either but using the coveted baseball
analogy, If the Alito hearings had been baseball, the dems would be
banned for life for choking (throwing) the World Series.
But I do know Leahy's record and never concerned where he'll come down on an issue.

9. Leahy was a no-nonsense District Attorney in Burlington
Not one of those political, press conference, "Mary Grace" types -- but an "in the court room" trial lawyer.

A friend of mine - a no nonsense civil litigator - was one of his Assistant District Attorneys back in Burlington VT. I trust his judgment -- and he speaks very highly of Leahy.

Why else do you think Cheney told him to fuck off? I watched him on the Alito hearings and he did great.

6. I never choose who I will support on one vote
If it was the case, I would never support anybody (Feingold voted for Ashcroft, Robert, and Rice. Boxer and Kennedy voted for the Patriot Act. ...).

This said, I dont think Feingold is unelectable for the reasons you give.

Leahy is a terrific Senator. As is Feingold. As are Boxer, Harkin, Kerry, Kennedy, etc etc etc.

I won't throw anyone away over one or two votes.

11. The bad thing about Leahy for President is
we'd lose him as our senator. I love P.L.! He's the best!

He can be so soft spoken (when he wants) it would be hard for the Rethugs to hate him.

Maybe not, I may have him confused with Jeffords.

I googled - he'll be 66 the end of march - March 31st 1940

21. If the PA is a bad thing to you - read this
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patrick_Leahy#U.S._Senator

He was a primary author of the controversial USA PATRIOT Act, and is a leading proponent of enforcing "sunset" provisions for the sections of the Act that infringe the most on Americans' civil liberties.

23. I'd forgotten.. that's right.. that's why most of the Dems didn't vote
against the PA because it was their initiative in the first place.

it's their "national security" political trump card..
