Bell, Perry take party nods in governor's race

AUSTIN -- Former U.S. Rep. Chris Bell easily won the Democratic Party's nomination for governor Tuesday night and now must face Republican Gov. Rick Perry, who beat three little-known challengers in his party's primary.

On the Republican side, Perry's three contenders together garnered about 15 percent of the primary votes. They were Grand Prairie telecommunications consultant Larry Kilgore, with 7.5 percent; Corpus Christi rancher Star Locke, with about 3.5 percent; and San Antonio private security professional Rhett Smith, with nearly 4.5 percent.
