Why is Hillary the only female candidate we have??? Disgraceful.
C'mon, DUers, most of us do NOT want Hillary, DLC sell-out that she is. We want a real progressive. But it is kind of embarrassing that the GOP seems more serious about Condi than we are about any woman other than Hillary.

Who else do we have?? I really like Deb Wasseman Schultz, who I first heard during the Schiavo mess. She is smart, presentable and very sincere. Who else?? Boxer - I think she is considered too liberal to survive (but I LOVE and RESPECT her!) Anyone??? Anyone??? Please help me not be embarrassed when right wingers sing the praises of Condi, and I don't have a real female candidate!!

10. No - I know what you are saying
about how I worded that, and I would DIE before I sang Condi's praised, but it is upsetting that the only female we have as a serious candidate is Hillary, whose husband was president.

...you're imprssed that the republicans have Condi and all we have is Hillary? Huh? Are you suggesting that we pick female candidates even though they don't know that they're candidates? Hillary is the only female candidate that's showed any indication that they may be a candidate from any party. I don't get, I don't mean to be a dick, I just don't get it. Every fenmale in the democratic party would be capable of becoming the next President. We have some brilliant women in Washington.

25. Yeah, Condi's not popular with the GOP rank and file
She has the adulation of a small number of egghead wonks inside the beltway, but the Republicans on the ground absolutely do not like her. She's loudly pro-choice and a big supporter of affirmative action, which makes her persona non grata to the Republicans' most basic constituencies, plus Condi Rice is closely associated with the implementation of the Iraq War, which even most Republicans are now frustrated about. Condi does not have the backing of the GOP. Someone like John McCain or George Allen is most likely.

4. Hillary is the strongest woman candidate in American history
Hillary is as tough as new rope and is the most liberal electable candidate in the field as long as Al Gore isn't running. Mary Landrieu is close to a "Southern Hillary" and I think she would be the best VP choice for Team Clinton.

Boxer has my admiration, and she's been one of the few in the Senate to stand up against the Bushies and their warmongering plans. Barbara Boxer deserves our utmost respect.

6. never elected Condi is "real"? LOL - Hillary will do fine - but who else
that is female and Dem is thinking of making a run?

On the male side Kerry, Edwards, Clark, and Biden all want to run - and Gore might change his mind.

But we are a few years out and I plan to focus on 06 for now.

7. Louise Slaughter
I don't know her voting record, but she's plain spoken and originally from Kentucky, IIRC. I like her better than almost any female politician I can think of off the top of my head.

She minces no words, she's a shoot from the hip, and by golly she's got something to say... I really like her. I only just recently becamen familiarized with her a bit in recent press conferences. she blew my mind with her straight for the jugular, no nonesense speaking style.

and i sure like what she stands for.

The GOP is embarrassing us, Hannity is embarrassing us, every single time he praises Condi. To his cult members, it does not matter that she is an incompetent warmonger, all that matters is that Bush is so progressive because he likes a black woman.

I really am impressed by women Dems, especially the Congressional Black Caucus who have Always stood up for the rights of ALL Americans (love you, Sheila Jackson Lee!) but we do not promote these women, give them face time.

Just think - imagine Sheila Jackson Lee giving the rebuttal to the State of the Union after Hurricane Katrina rather than that white bread repub-lite guy they got to do it. Ugh.

21. Sibellius? Napolitano? Boxer? There are way more Democratic women with
a legitimate chance of being President then there are Republicans.

Basically, Republicans have nobody. Dole is too old and I doubt Whitman would make it past the primaries.

Congresswoman Wasserman Schultz is only in her first U.S. House term - - I'd like to see her take on Mel Martinez in 2010 and be elected to the U.S. Senate.

As far as presidential tickets, I think that Ohio Congresswoman Stephanie Tubbs Jones would make an excellent vice-presidential running mate for Wes Clark or Mark Warner.

Afterall, Condi thinks that Bush is her husband...so there is a definite pattern!

Bush/Clinton/Bush/Clinton - Just say NO to Dynasties no matter how much money in their warchest!
