A Woman Who Isn't Hillary - Francine Busby - Has An Election In 30 Days
Shouldn't we be talking about her?

I mean, she's running for Congress and all and may very well take Duke Cunningham's seat in a special election in a district that leans Republican.

And she will be national news if she wins.

And if the DNC plays it right, we could get tons of stories in the media about her victory being the start of the deluge for '06.

But not a peep on DU about Francine, who is actually in a Congressional election in 30 days.

Ok, go back to talking about Hillary.

2. I am more and more convinced
there is a part of DU that is totally uninterested in actually winning elections. They would prefer to play victim and argue on a website.

4. It's partly due to the Righties giving her so much attention.
I am beginning to think it's not important to pay attention to the Right anymore, they are crumbling. As much as we are tempted to respond to them and argue, or show how outrageous they are, we should just say enough! We need to support the message of those running in 2006.

Time to turn up the megaphone. THEY can respond to US this time.

We can do this! HUP HUP!!

9. You'll notice that the more Democratic fortunes improve
the more vehement the negative "we can't win" threads here get....

18. It shows (snicker)
Nancy Pelosi is a "lameass", "gutless wonder", "useless, spineless, posturing, fingerintheair asswipe", part of the "Elite Ruling Class who are there to protect the status quo of fascism", a "Pro-War Monger", "stupid, irresponsible", "worse than Tojo!...practically Adolf Eichmann to Bush's Milosevic", "another politician not willing to enforce the laws of the United States when it comes to the executive branch", "wimp", etc. etc. etc...

Non-Democrat Bernie Sanders does the exact same fucking thing...but he's "pragmatic" and "honest."

The wonder is that it's so transparently obvious.

20. Bernie should support impeachment. I'll agree.
YOu would have to agree that Pelosi brought some of the anger on herself by not only refusing to support impeachment but by speaking contemptously about the people who do. If she'd have said no respectfully, they'd have been kinder. Instead, she acted like she was above them.
This isn't a party where you can get away with that. Arrogance is for Republicans.

24. How can you justify the dismissive tone Pelosi took with her own
constituents? And if the SF city council stuck strictly with local issues, it would be abandoning any chance to be different from a Republican city council. It would be, in short, giving up.

3. No, no, ruggerson....

You've gotten it all wrong! Your OP title ought to be "Support Hillary Clinton's run for U.S. Congress in California in 30 Days". :D

In the body of the post, mention that Hillary's real name, in this case, is Francine Busby. Do give people a PenPal address to send money to, uh, 'Hillary'/Francine.

I've heard her speak many times and have been very impressed.

Polls have shown her beating every Republican opponent in a head-to-head poll, so this is a race well worth supporting!

7. There's a slew of them
<snip>

Seventeen out of 19 candidates are Republicans, NBC 7/39 reported. Eight GOP candidates squared off Thursday in a debate sponsored by the conservative Republican Lincoln Club.

While the 50th congressional district is considered safe Republican territory, Busby said there may be room for surprises in an open special election.

"I have enormous amounts of support," Busby said. "But, yes, if they do split their side, I could conceivably hit that 50 percent mark. It's a winnable race for me."

If there's no outright winner in the primary on April 11, each party's top finisher will face a runoff election June 6, NBC 7/39 reported. If she wins more than 50%, she's in.

If not, there's a runoff.

I did phone bank for Paul Hackett here in SF and plan to do the same for Ms. Busby's campaign.

The thought of a Democrat winning a seat in a predominantly Republican San Diego district (30%:44.5%) is simply too delicious to sit by passively.

Thanks, ruggerson, for keeping your eye on the prize.

Cunningham was poison. I had donated to Busby's campaign the last time she ran. Glad to see she should end up with the position after all.

15. Good luck to Francine. I honestly hadn't heard of her candidacy.
But don't use her success to bash DU.

Let's all find ways to support her now. That's what matters.

19. I was just going to post about her - She could be the Paul Hackett of CA
She's polling well in California, but the winner needs 50% in order to avoid a run-off election in June. (Shes'around 40% - ahead of everyone else)

Let's make it 14 seats that we'll need in November of 2006 and get behind Francine

25. I'm in her district. I worry about Diebold though...
Edited on Sat Mar-25-06 12:30 AM by calipendence
Up until this election this last year or so we've been using optically scanned ballots with a Diebold tabulator back end. Jim March of Black Box voting made news here for the special mayoral election held last year when he had to "break in" through the barriers containing the observors to get "close enough" to the central tabulator machine to see what was going on there. I'm hoping that isn't going to happen this time around.

Secondly, I'm wondering if the whole reason McPherson "jumped the gun" stealthily under the MSM radar to reauthorize Diebold Touchscreen machines early enough to try and get them used for this race. Their announcement noted that this race would be the first to use them.

I was overjoyed when seeing the lawsuit that was being filed last week against Diebold here, McPherson, and 18 counties (including San Diego County) to stop their use. I sent out a lot of inquiries to find out if there would be time enough to stop them here for April 11th election, and voiced concern that if they were allowed to be used, and the Rethugs were able to rationalize that they "worked well", that that also might have an adverse effect of shutting them down for the state later this year when the stakes are higher.

I was concerned that we wouldn't be able to switch to scanned ballots in time. Just a little while ago, I was talking to my Mom on the phone here, and she said that her voter pamphlet stated that voting would occur on scanned ballots... Hmmmm. I said to myself. That tells me that up until recently they had been putting together materials for scanned ballots which was reflected in this documentation, which might mean that they also have scanned ballots ready to use too if the voting machines are legally struck down. Would like to clarify this though, so that we can help those filing the lawsuit getting an injunction against them declared early before April 11th.

I do believe that they would try to "tweak" her vote totals to make sure she wouldn't get the 50% majority, and perhaps tweak others totals so that the second place finisher would be the Rethug that would match up with her best one on one. I think that might have happened to Donna Frye earlier too, when Sanders got the second place nod and the runoff instead of Francis. Frye I'm sure could have beaten Francis had he been in the runoff. It will be critical to watch these voting machines and the central tabulator like HAWKS to make sure that they aren't doing anything fishy.

Another point of concern is that the county clerks and registrar of voters here are all Republicans, which has had many of us worried about cheating for some time here locally. I'm looking to perhaps take a day off for election day to help with monitoring polling stations or the central tabulator machine.

We got to make sure that cheating doesn't happen OR that at least we can catch them in the act. Letting them get away with cheating will hurt A LOT!

Also note that Barbara Boxer either beat or just barely lost to her opponent this last senate election in this district. There ARE votes to help someone like Francine win! And if she can be an incumbent long enough before the general election in November, that could make a difference for 2006 too.
