Long term problem: people have shorter attention spans than corporations
We have started in more progressive directions a couple of times in the past, but every time we make major gains, once the general public starts to enjoy the better standard of living, they lose interest in politics. Corporations, by contrast, seem to have a terminator-like focus on the political process, year in, year out.

Is there any way to counter-balance the public's inattention?

1. I think that has a lot to do with the whole
corporate personhood crap. Corporations are immortal, for all intents and purposes, and thus can take a much longer view than a REAL person. They are immune to age, disease, and all the things that can befall a real human being, and are thus far more powerful than we are...EXCEPT in cases where our tolerance has reached its limits, and then corporations can be MADE more vulnerable by a concerted assault from below.
