Boston Globe article highlighting Dean's strategy:
But a year after the crusading former Vermont governor took over the DNC, the party has reacted in some surprising ways. It's the East Coast liberals who are grumbling about Dean's talk-show gaffes and staring at the DNC's near-empty coffers with dismay.

Meanwhile, many Dean skeptics in state Democratic parties -- especially in places like New Mexico, a swing state that voted Republican in the last presidential race -- have been won over. The reason is the millions of dollars Dean has spent rebuilding Democratic organizations in places that haven't seen a coordinated Democratic effort in a long time.

1. Wow, a balanced, non-snarky article
am I dreaming?

2. A lot of Dean's
Strategy will have to do with how much the people who got involved in his campaign, and perhaps the other contenders, will contribute small amounts. A lot of people with $20 a piece makes a tremendous difference.

I think a lot of people don't think their small change will make a difference, but there is certainly strength in numbers. I think we have the potential to collect some of that massive amount of small money, but it is highly dependent on the candidate. It has to be someone who not only addresses the issues of concern to those who can only afford a $5, or $10 contribution, but someone who can express it in a way we feel he means it.

Uniquely, no matter his personal wealth, Dean had that quality. But no matter. If you have a few dollars to send to your representative, or senator, and the democratic candidate for president, just do it. It'll make a difference if we all do.

3. The author seems fascinated that the DNC is paying staff members for
the work they are doing.

"more than 150 DNC-paid operatives have fanned out across the country..."
"In Albuquerque, four energetic young staff members -- trained by and drawing paychecks from the DNC..."
"In Ohio, the five people being paid by the DNC..."

He seems to want to hit that point for some reason. I noticed it on the first read through and found it very irksome.

5. I noticed that also;
As if there was something distasteful about paying people to do this (maybe he is afraid they are being effective)

4. Won't it be great when we win big?
hahaha These idiots! I know hwat Dean is doing and I am doing the same thing on a smaller scale. The Dem party needs to work every single neighborhood. Break it down by state and then county and then precinct. Hit the doors, work the phones and send out the letters. Get together, get active, and get visible. Build the base one street at a time. Not only do you win elections, you have territories that aren't so vulnerable to gerrymandering. This is how you recruit good candidates for local office and beyond and build the networks that will put them into office.

I am at the District level and I target my efforts at the county level. If not for the resources available to me through my state party my work would be nearly impossible.

Of course, this is all lost on the clueless.
