It was almost a year ago exactly that we started hacking away at Ralph Reed's chutzpah in launching his political career at the very time a massive federal investigation was unfolding around him. It was a couple months later when Bob Irvin, a former Republican state representative and House minority leader, wrote a column for the AJC entitled, "Reed an albatross for GOP"...

Ten days ago, a year-long campaign by Reed to present himself as an innocent, unwitting pawn of Jack Abramoff came to an embarassing end...

Throughout this time, the White House and GOP powers that be have been doing whatever they can for Ralphie. At one event in Georgia, Dick Cheney was heard to remark...

I also understand my old friend Ralph Reed is here this morning. I've known Ralph for many years. (Applause.)


Zell Miller and Sean Hannity headed over to help Ralph kick off his campaign. All this after President Bush repeatedly lauded Reed during the last campaign, and even sent him out as part of his shameful stable of surrogates during the debates.

Then last week, President Bush tried a different tact. Again from the Atlanta Journal-Constitution...
