2. NoMoJoe had a great comment
“Frankly I’d prefer to spend our time on figuring out ways to bring this very important program of surveillance of potential terrorists here in the United States under the law…. I disagree with the Bush administration’s legal judgment on this one…. But this is a critically important program to the prevention of terrorist acts here in the United States.”

Scumbag. And he could have been Vice president? Makes ya wonder how many times he would have stabbed Gore in the back for his own gain.

3. Yes--a lot of them.
The goals and patriotism of a democratic voter have few parallels with those of a career politician, who, somehow, after a dozen years in congress has gone from a net worth of, say, a quarter million dollars to being worth five or ten million. Integrity is a rare commodity in government.

5. In my SDS days, we knew this sort of thing was true.
The republicans, we said, would kick you in the nuts. The Democrats would kick you in the nuts and say "Sorry."

6. D n Rs
Pretty close to my experience.

The Repugs will kick you in the nuts but tell you they are massaging them.

The Dems will kick you in the nuts but tell you its for the children.

8. NSA and Corp. backers.
This is why most Dems in Congress go along to get along.
