MoveOn's Petition to Censure Bush - Please SIgn !
Dear MoveOn member,
Yesterday, Senator Russ Feingold introduced a resolution to censure President Bush for breaking the law by illegally wiretapping American citizens.

Censuring a sitting president is serious business. But when the president misleads the public and Congress while willfully and repeatedly breaking the law, there must be consequences—that's how the law works for everybody else.

While most politicians sat back and weighed the political pros and cons of holding the president accountable, Senator Feingold stuck his neck out and did it. Now it's up to us to show broad public support. Can you sign our petition asking Congress to join the call for censure?

Right now it's unclear how many of Senator Feingold's colleagues will stand with him in this important fight. If we can reach 250,000 signatures, we'll deliver your comments to your senators this week to demonstrate widespread public support censuring the president for breaking the law. We'll also send a copy of the complete petition to Senator Feingold to show our support for his courage.

President Bush already had the authority to wiretap suspected terrorists—he could even wiretap first and get warrants 3 days later. But he chose to get no warrants at all, clearly violating the law set up to protect innocent Americans and then he misled the Congress and the public about his program.1

Censuring the president means Congress officially acknowledges that the president broke the law and condemns him for doing it. Given the scale of the president's problem, it's a very reasonable first step to holding him accountable. This is a key moment for Congress to show that they're serious about checks and balances.

Our country was founded on the idea that everyone—even the president— has to follow the law. Supporting censure is the best opportunity we've got to keep that ideal alive. Can you sign our petition today?

Thanks for all you do,

members to sign his petition? That would help Feingold the most--not being aligned with MoveOn which has been sufficiently demonized by the all too willing corporate media whores.

13. I signed it on Feingold's site, but he needs support from Move On. and
other progressive groups out here. Why allow the RIGHT WING's demonization of Move On. org. to sway your own opinion.

The Right Wing is not afraid of it's Christian RW Fundies, Falwell, Dobson, Swift Boat Liars and all their Think Tanks and nutcases like Limbauh, Coulter and most of Fox News.

They Love and Support their groups who support them. Allowing them to go after Michael Moore, Cindi Sheehan, Move On., the ACLU and the other groups who are fighting for justice against these thugs...does nothing but help them in their cause. Just saying....

16. MoveOn has pissed me off on a number of occasions. Sign if you like.
I prefer to sign Feingold's petition. They could have directed their members to his site, and they chose not to.

18. Kohn not supporting, but Kerry is interested, and Boxer supporting.
Herb Kohl, Feingold's fellow Wisconsin Democrat, declined to back the resolution. His statement, in its totality, read: "As the Senate continues to investigate the president's implementation of the domestic eavesdropping program, it is not clear that censuring the president is the most effective way to bring that program into line with our need to protect national security and civil liberties."

Among the more supportive Democrats, California Sen. Barbara Boxer said that she could vote for the resolution.

Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry said of the resolution: "I'm interested in it . . . The president ought to be held accountable, and I think he broke the law."

<>Feingold said "people are afraid to engage in what needs to be done, which is to call the president to task, because the White House spin machine is ready to intimidate everyone."

17. My additional comment.
It's long past time that my Senators and Representative actually represent me and the Constitution. President Bush has BROKEN THE LAW! Censuring him is the least you can do. History will show that those in support of Senator Feingold's resolution are the true patriots. Be winter soldiers, not summer soldiers.

19. Signed petition and contributed money to MoveOn!
President Nixon broke the law and the House voted Articles of Impeachment. President Clinton perjured himself, and he was impeached (and acquitted) by Congress. Bush has broken the law, and has dared Congress to stop him. If Congress fails to bring Bush into account for his law breaking, we would lose the Republic for good and end up with a dictatorship.
