2. Nothing wrong, it's the irony and disconnect
I noticed especially the LBN threads about the bases. At first I thought it was a dupe, but it turns out two different people saying exactly the opposite.

You must think like someone with a personality disorder in order to process the crap we are being fed by the Bush regime. Normal people couldn't cope with such psychosis!

7. It's quite dangerous to try to make sense of it unless
you've been on a koolaid drip for at least a month.
For your own mental health, DO NOT try to make sense of it...keep that advice right in there with the "DO NOT stare at the sun" warning you received in your youth!

...crank out the commercial static in the background, that they call news. The content is irrelevant. Have you heard the latest? There was a poll. Here's the hook in this story! Hey what do ya think will happen next? I don't know anything about war or economics but I sure can repeat a lot of bullshit. Hey lets get joe neocon editorial editor for the corporate daily to tell us some stuff.

And when I say all this stuff to others, they nod their heads. Boy, that sure does make me feel comfortable with myself.

13. Four psychotic headlines posted in LBN tonight
Here are today's psychotic headlines, and they are all true:

US vows no permanent bases in Iraq

US ambassador to Iraq Zalmay Khalilzad said Saturday that his country did not want permanent military bases in Iraq.

"We want Iraq to stand on its own feet, we have no goal of establishing permanent bases here," he said in an interview with Iraq's Ash-Sharqiya television, according to a transcript obtained by AFP.

"Our goal is a working, a workable government, so that we can leave Iraq and let Iraqis handle all their circumstance themselves. That's our goal, and were very serious about this, we mean it," he said.

Abizaid says U.S. may want to keep bases in Iraq

The United States may want to keep a long-term military presence in Iraq to bolster moderates against extremists in the region and protect the flow of oil, the Army general overseeing U.S. military operations in Iraq said on Tuesday.

"Clearly our long-term vision for a military presence in the region requires a robust counter-terrorist capability," Abizaid said. "No doubt there is a need for some presence in the region over time primarily to help people help themselves through this period of extremists versus moderates."

Abizaid also said the United States and its allies have a vital interest in the oil-rich region.

"Ultimately it comes down to the free flow of goods and resources on which the prosperity of our own nation and everybody else in the world depend," he said.

US general says no proof Iran behind Iraq arms

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The top U.S. military officer said on Tuesday the United States does not have proof that Iran's government is responsible for Iranians smuggling weapons and military personnel into Iraq.

President George W. Bush said on Monday components from Iran were being used in powerful roadside bombs used in Iraq, and Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld said last week that Iranian Revolutionary Guard personnel had been inside Iraq.

Asked whether the United States has proof that Iran's government was behind these developments, Marine Corps Gen. Peter Pace, chairman of the military's Joint Chiefs of Staff, told a Pentagon briefing, "I do not, sir."

"Unless you physically see it in a government-sponsored vehicle or with government-sponsored troops, you can't know it," Rumsfeld said at the same briefing. "All you know is that you find equipment, weapons, explosives, whatever, in a country that came from the neighboring country."

Bush blames Iran for Iraq roadside bombs

President Bush has accused Iran of helping Shi'ite militias in Iraq build more effective roadside bombs, the most lethal weapon against U.S. forces and Iraqi civilians.

The president said Monday the U.S. government is intensifying its effort to fight the bombs.

President Bush blamed Iran directly for helping Iraqi insurgents improve their improvised explosive devices, or IED's, the weapon that is responsible for more than half of the 1,800 U.S. combat deaths in Iraq.

"Some of the most powerful IED's we're seeing in Iraq today include components that came from Iran," said President Bush. "Our Director of National Intelligence, John Negroponte, told the congress Tehran has been responsible for at least some of the increasing lethality of anti-coalition attacks by providing Shia' militia with the capability to build improvised explosive devices in Iraq. Coalition forces have seized IED's and components that were clearly produced in Iran."

Speaking to an audience at George Washington University not far from the White House, the president said Iran's support for terrorism and pursuit of nuclear weapons will result in continuing U.S. efforts to lead the international community in confronting Iran

I mean, if they are the least bit 'funny' they won't allow them here. This is all pretty protected, guarded, and slanted for consumption. That's fine--but it's also the truth.

17. Why should these threads "get gone"....
They are not "funny Ha Ha" but "funny-nonsensical." They reflect the idiocy of the continuing Iraq Adventure--both Republican spin & the reality that keeps proving it a lie.

Apparently, you see some of these threads as going against DU's policy of being "protected, guarded & slanted for consumption." Generally, threads are not deleted unless they are outright offensive. However, DU'ers can be deleted--or "Tombstoned"--for not following the guidelines they supposedly read when they signed up.

18. What you say is true.
Yes, posters CAN get 'tombstoned' here.... However, it doesn't make sense that DU has the goal of supporting the Democratic party, while some here go to considerable trouble to alienate a potential Democrat vote.

19. get used to them and welcome to DU
Some who post here are called "freepers" and they are reich-wing Republican spies who want to make our candidates look bad... You'll soon find out who is true-blue at DU.

BTW, you can't actually call them "freepers" or your post will be deleted.

certainly we have some people on the left that pass themselves off as politically right and go to the reich-wing sites to make them look bad too... Keep in mind that many who post negative stuff about our candidates aren't spies and just want attention from readers, so they post controversial divisive issues.... All I say is "know the tree by its fruit."

In the threads cited in the OP?
