2. how are they preventing viewing? refusing to run it on their stations?
are they trying to cover up billboards? just wondering, in case they decide to try something like that here in fundieville.

If you're interested in how pervasive this (I can't think of a term vile enough to describe these monsters) here's what we know about them:

Overall it controls around 1,170 radio stations and 19 television stations in the US—nothing, it seems, exceeds like success—and has major overseas interests (for example a stake in over 118 Mexican radio stations).

Clear owns -

* the largest US rock concert promoter, SFX Entertainment (acquired for US$4.4 billion in 2000 and rebadged as Clear Channel Entertainment),
* over 100 concert venues,
* radio research companies, radio trade magazines, regional news networks,
* Premier Radio Networks - syndicated programming,
* Mediabase, an airplay monitoring system and
* Adshel, an international outdoor advertising company with around 700,000 billboards

Clear Channel Outdoor has an estimated 700,000 displays (eg roadside billboards, taxi backs, space in shopping malls and airports) in over 37 countries. Display related operations include -

* Clear Channel Airports
* Clear Channel Taxi Media
* Clear Channel Spectacolor
* Clear Channel Adshel
* Clear Channel Malls
* Clear Channel Independent (62.5%) South Africa - 37.5% by INM
* Hainan White Horse Advertising Media Investment (50%) China
* Expoplakat (40%) Estonia
* Sirocco International SA (50%) France
* Adshel Street Furniture (50%) Australia and New Zealand - 50% by APN
* Capital City Posters (30%) Singapore
* Master & More (31.9%) Thailand

Clear's major Australian presence is through its 50% stake in the Australian Radio Network, half-owned by the O'Reilly controlled APN.

ARN stations include -

WS FM - Sydney
MIX 106.5 - Sydney
Gold FM - Melbourne
MIX 101.1 - Melbourne
4KQ - Brisbane
5DN - Adelaide
MIX 102.3 - Adelaide

In New Zealand, ARN has a one third interest in The Radio Network (TRN), the leading commercial broadcaster with 55 stations.

APN's Pan TV is a joint venture between ARN, public sector broadcaster SBS and Australian Capital Equity. Its World Movies pay tv channel is distributed by the three pay tv carriers - Foxtel, Optus and Austar - and accessed by about 15% of pay tv homes.

Clear Channel has a stake in Adshel Street Furniture outdoor advertising holdings include (partnership with APN)

Clear Channel Independent—a major outdoor advertising operation in South Africa—is controlled by Clear, with a 37.5% stake held by INM.

is really not a problem. We liberals are just exagerating when we talk about corporate control of the disemination of information.
