Call for Censure Is Rallying Cry to Bush's Base
By DAVID D. KIRKPATRICK
Published: March 16, 2006

WASHINGTON, March 15 — Republicans, worried that their conservative base lacks motivation to turn out for the fall elections, have found a new rallying cry in the dreams of liberals about censuring or impeaching President Bush.

The proposal this week by Senator Russell D. Feingold, Democrat of Wisconsin, to censure Mr. Bush over his domestic eavesdropping program cheered the left. But it also dovetailed with conservatives' plans to harness such attacks to their own ends.

With the Republican base demoralized by continued growth in government spending, undiminished violence in Iraq and intramural disputes over immigration, some conservative leaders had already begun rallying their supporters with speculation about a Democratic rebuke to the president even before Mr. Feingold made his proposal.

<snip>

In an interview on Wednesday, Mr. Feingold declined to rule out supporting impeachment in the future, saying that the wiretapping "probably is the kind of thing the founding fathers thought of as high crimes and misdemeanors."

++++++++++++++++

The article has so many quotables--but, alas, I'll stick to the 4 para rule.

1. So, once again, they'd rather have a criminal than save their country.
Yep. Typical rethugs. That's exactly why we're in this mess. The eternally stupid are voting without using their brains.

3. I question whether they, with their dangerous sense of
entitlement, even recognize criminal behavior.

5. Editorial posing as news from media whore DAVID D. KIRKPATRICK
Edited on Wed Mar-15-06 10:54 PM by Warren Stupidity
Kirkpatrick went and interviewed republican professional spin masters to get their offical talking points on censure and, surprise, proceeds to write an editorial-posing-as-news story for Ministry of Disinformation house organ Neo Con Times. Kirky regurgitates the theory that censuring the enormously popular Bush will have the same result as the censure and impeachment of the universally despised Clinton.

Your assignment, should you choose to accept it, is to explain why Kirkpatrick's regurgitation of this republican talking point is total bullshit.

6. well, considering that only 1 democrat..........
....has so far supported the censure, I'm not sure if they can really make that into an issue!!

I mean, how are they going to rally their base if even a majority of Democrats don't show support for it?

Now maybe the Democrats are holding back just so that they won't seem to be a threatening force before the election..........or maybe not.

I saw a guy last night on Olbermann (I forget who it was). Anyway, he was talking about the '06 elections and how Bush and the Republicans would react to a Democrat majority. And his opinion was that the Republicans are not so much worried that Democrats would impeach Bush, they're more worried that Democrats would not authorize all of Bush's spending bills especially in regards to the war.

I would like to believe that the Democrats would impeach Bush if they got a majority but now, I'm starting to wonder about it. They always seem to be so concerned with appearances and not rocking the boat.

7. More manufactured outrage.
The Republicans are again distributing the talking points through their subserviant CorpoMedia.
