19. Edwards sounds optimistic.
Edited on Thu Mar-16-06 05:15 PM by Dunvegan
When my SIL ran into Kerry in NYC outside a Broadway play, John seemed filled with enui.

How was Edwards' demeanor? How was his spirit? Did he seem grounded in reality or campaigning? And, did he look (in person) old enough to run for president...or perhaps a little too youthful for the top slot in 2008?

49. I got to shake Kennedy's hand when I was a little kid
It was when he was campaigning to be president. My father took me to New Hackensack Airport in Dutchess County, NY, where JFK's small plane landed on a campaign run.

drove him out because he wrote a good review of The Pinochet File. He left for a job teaching at Harvard.

30. The CFR is the Council for Foreign Relations
Here's the Wikipedia link:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Council_On_Foreign_Relations

Wikipedia on The Council on Foreign Relations

The Council on Foreign Relations (CFR) is a think tank which describes itself as "dedicated to increasing America's understanding of the world and contributing ideas to U.S. foreign policy. The Council accomplishes this mainly by promoting constructive, closed debates and discussions, clarifying world issues, and publishing Foreign Affairs."

The Council on Foreign Relations, as well as the Royal Institute of International Affairs in London, came about as a result of a meeting on May 30, 1919 at the Hotel Majestic in Paris, France. Some of the fifty participants were Edward M. House, Harold Temperley, Lionel Curtis, Lord Eustace Percy, Herbert Hoover, Christian Herter, plus American academic historians James Thomson Shotwell of Columbia University, Archibald Coolidge of Harvard and Charles Seymour of Yale.

Formally established in 1921, it is one of the most powerful private organizations with influence on U.S. foreign policy. It has about 4,000 members, including former national security officers, professors, former CIA members, elected politicians, and media figures. The council is not a formal institution within U.S. policy making.

There are two types of membership - term membership (which lasts for 5 years and is available to those between 30 and 36) and regular membership. Membership is only open to US citizens (native born or naturalised) and permanent residents who have applied for citizenship. Proposed members must be nominated by current ones.

35. Does he still have that mole on his lip?
Every time I would see him I couldn't help but be distracted by that mole. I was more impressed by him than Kerry in the last election, I thought he could connect with the average guy where Kerry never could.

46. Wonkette's got a report on that....
"Saw John Edwards Sunday evening <3/5> at Clyde’s in Georgetown. He seemed to be enjoying himself and was gracious with those who interrupted him for autographs. In real life he is far more attractive than I had been lead to believe. Seeing him in person only makes me more upset about the current VP’s lack of hotness, or soul for that matter. One can only wonder what the world would be like if a face like that was representing us. The possibilities are endless."
