You can lie about military intelligence, reasons for war, all of the things that are, by their nature, 'hidden' from the public view. THAT you can get away with.

But you can't lie to people about their OWN LIVES. You can't lie to Americans about how well the economy is doing; they're struggling to make ends meet - they know better.

You can't lie to Americans about how outsourcing jobs isn't a widespread problem. They're out of work, and they see their friends and neighbours out of work - they know better.

You can't lie to Americans about how circumstances beyond anyone's control are driving up gas prices. They see the record profits of the oil companies - they know better.

You can't lie to Americans about how it's their own fault if they don't have retirement savings, or health care insurance. They're living paycheque to paycheque due to rising prices everywhere - they know better.

And once the American people, who formerly trusted and supported this Adminisration, realize they're being LIED TO about these things, they start to question EVERYTHING they've been told since day one - like WMDs, like Enron, like not being in bed with Abramoff, etc.

This was the biggest mistake of the GOP and those who put the Idiot in the White House. They just didn't think it through, didn't stop to realize that the people who formerly supported them would eventually get hit just as hard as the people who opposed them - and would react, shall we say, a bit negatively when it happened.

And now they've got the poll numbers to show it.

to the American people. Once they realize they are being lied to, they will desert the Repubs in Washington that think they are one big happy team.

But if they'd wanted to keep the support of the Republican voters who put them in power in the first place, they should have handed out secret ID cards, or decoder-rings - maybe a complicated handshake that identifies you to your fellow Republicans?

"Oh, why didn't you SHOW me your GOP-ID card right away, ma'am. Of course you get a discount on your fill-up!"

"My boss was about to outsource MY job - then I gave him the handshake and the wink. Once he knew I was a Republican, he fired the Democrat down the hall instead!"

Did they HONESTLY think their supporters would continue that support once they started getting hit in the wallet, right alongside we Bush bashers?
