"Best Republican President We Ever Had" Urges World to Aid the Poor
Former President Clinton, called by some on the left "Best Republican President We Ever Had" () welcomed Heifer International to his neighborhood Thursday, dedicating the charity's new world headquarters with a plea for everyone to "give them your hand" and fight hunger.

"Ordinary people of modest means have the power to change lives half a world away," Clinton said in a two-hour ceremony that featured music and dance from among the 50 countries that Heifer serves.

Heifer International provides livestock to poor families, plus training on how to help them produce an income. The families who receive the animals _ from cattle to ducks to bees _ are expected to pass the animals' offspring to others.

Heifer International enjoys a higher profile overseas than it does at home and Thursday's dedication aimed to draw more attention to its work through appearances by Clinton and Jeffrey Sachs, director of the United Nations anti-poverty Millennium Project.

2. Its funny, I think the tag comes from gopers who realize
that Clinton was a heck of a lot better than bush, as presdient, but have to find some tag before saying his name to make any mention of this belief... as if that makes less ironic their praise after eight years of their harranging of Clinton over things that now seem pretty unsubstantive in comparision to the actions of jr.

5. That was Jim Hightower, 1999.
A reasonable assessment from a left/populist pov.

3. Oh, that's nice...
I'm glad Bill was involved. Heifer's a great organization. I hope this brings them a higher profile.

I urge everyone to check them out at http://www.heifer.org .

4. Rachel Maddow refers to Clinton like this...
Many progressives feel that Clinton (both of them) and other "moderate" DLC members are too much like Republicans.

Maddow often refers to Clinton as the "best Republican President we ever had"...

6. So--we shouldn't contribute to Heifer International...
Because you know an amusing phrase about President Clinton?

The "amusing phrase" about President Clinton is just blathering from leftist-purists.

9. In 8 years Clinton brought the 6 trillion National Debt to zero and into
a surplus...since then, in 5 years...its now back up to 8.1 Trillion with another trillion being passed..By the time bush leaves office, the debt will be a debiliating 11 TRILLION DOLLARS...Bush is some conservative.

Clinton is a man of all ages...despite his troubles with BJs...he did what he was supposed to do...take care of the Nation...

I love that man...

13. What Bush did is bad enough
He has caused us to be broke for the next generation. I doubt that even Clinton's miracle workers could fix this mess.

14. You are correct in that had we continued Clinton's policies,
we would be getting close to paying off the national debt by now under Gore's second term based on projected surpluses. Actually would have occurred around 2010.

16. Our debt has never been zero.
He balanced the budget and began paying off some of the interest, but the debt was never zero.

However, he was a great president. Probably one of the best in the 20th century.
