O'Reilly: "If Bush invites you, you go, even if you don't agree with him"
The Most Ridiculous Item of the Day

Friday, March 17, 2006
By Bill O'Reilly

Apparently, actress Jessica Simpson has been disrespectful to President Bush. The "Dukes of Hazzard" co-star is involved in a charity that helps children overseas with facial deformities. That's good. But according to the Reuters news service, Simpson was invited to a Republican fundraiser which was being tied into the charity, Operation Smile. Simpson was offered a meeting with President Bush, who was attending the fundraiser, and apparently said no, even though evidence indicates she does know who the president is.

Now, that snide remark was completely uncalled for, of course, and is ridiculous. I admit it. But not as ridiculous as Jessica Simpson disrespecting the president of the United States. If he's nice enough to invite to you a meeting, you go, even if you don't agree with him.

8. Funny...
To me, Simpson was basically say, "I don't want to turn off people on the left to my charity by attending a GOP fundraiser just to get face time with Bush." She made it clear that she didn't want to politicize it. I don't see what the issue is.

Bill O'Reilly is a fucking idiot.

11. That's exactly what she said..."she didn't want to politicize it"...
and it's been REPORTED as such, and yet...the damned "liberal media" can't stop spinning this into "The president has been shown disrespect! The president has been shown disrespect!"

:silly:

Maybe if it's a State dinner or something.

Originally, she said yes. When she found out it was a fundraiser, she changed her mind.

O'Reilly is an asshole.

Edited on Fri Mar-17-06 07:13 PM by rocknation
I can understand Jessica's concern about attending a partisan fundraiser as a representative of a non-partisan organization. I could understand her concern that maybew the Rethugs were just using her for the photo op. And I could CERTAINLY understand Jessica's concern about being seen with someone which such low approval ratings!

18. He's wrong
The protocol is that if you are invited by the President to the White House you go. Using O'Reilly's logic, Bush could invite every Dem to his fundraisers and they'd have to go. That's absurd.

23. Jessica Simpson owes nobody an apology...
OR an explanation. If she doesn't want to see Bush, she doesn't have to. If her reasons are to not politicize her cause, that's fine, but her reason could be "fuck HIM" and that, too would be fine.

Since when does an American citizen HAVE to see Bush when invited?

Honestly, I didn't like or dislike her before this....in fact, I had trouble remembering who she was. But now I say, "good on ya, Jess"

27. If it was part of of an acceptance ceremony like the olympics
then I would go along, take the bow and leave. Because that is part of an american thing. History. But if it meant performing before his haves and have mores to make money for the party, then screw him. I think she was absolutely correct in her decision.

Take along a guest. Cindy Sheehan, for instance. I'm sure they'd find plenty to talk about.

33. Her explanation makes perfect sense, but the sad thing is
the way O'Reilly spun it as some form of disrespect, her charity will probably get less donations from the right. We should support her charity and everyone that sends in a check should write Democrat on the memo line.
