US evangelicals warn Republicans prior to midterms: "MUST DO BETTER"

US evangelicals warn Republicans
By Jamie Coomarasamy
BBC News, Washington

Prominent leaders from the Christian right have warned Republicans they must do more to advance conservative values ahead of the US mid-term elections. Their message to Congress, controlled by Republicans, is "must do better".

Support from about a quarter of Americans who describe themselves as evangelicals was a factor in President George W Bush's two election victories. The Republicans will need to keep them onboard if they are to retain control of Congress in November.

At a news conference in Washington, some of America's most influential conservative leaders said the current perception among evangelical Christians was that the Republican majority was not doing enough for them.

Tony Perkins, president of the Family Research Council, said that apart from confirming two conservative judges to the Supreme Court, "core values voters" did not feel that Congress was advancing their interests. The leaders appear to be reflecting a growing sense of frustration among the Christian right, over what they see as a lack of legislative progress on issues such as banning same-sex marriages.

3. I hope those Christian values include "thou shalt not kill"

Back to basics, I say.

I never understood how they could cherry pick their perception of what constitutes murder. Sending people to fight an illegal and immoral war is murder. MURDER! There are no arguments as to when life began for our troops.

I say any Christian who supports GWB is a low-life murderer of the most evil kind. Period.

Edited to ask... who the hell is this Perkins guy anyway? Other than being a failed country music singer, what are his qualifications and experiences and why do they make it ok for him to lie?

7. Jumping Jesus Jimminy Crickets...Like there isn't enough...
...phoney, hypocritical, for-propaganda-use-only holier-than-anybodyness in the White House already?

Try starting with "Love Thy Brother As Thyself" and work from there.

Oh. Forgot. Fundies are Old Testament Bible Thumpers. Jesus didn't make an appearance until the New Testament.

Then strict Ten Commandments for them. No killing. Well, that's the message George.

Get on it...hop, hop.

10. Repugs need to campaign on the Theocracy Platform.
Edited on Fri Mar-17-06 08:46 PM by longship
Drop the other shoe. Give the Rapture Rightists exactly what they want.

Start by advocating scrapping the Bill of Rights for the Decalogue. That will get everybody behind them big time. Then, advocate the death penalty for heresy, homosexuality, abortion, gambling, adultery, women being seen in public during menstruation, etc. And while you're at it, add un-American activities. Of course, the death penalty must be stoning; no other will do.

Advocate closing down public schools and make home schooling manditory. Let the people fend for themselves. Declare the USA officially a Christian country and make sure everybody knows precisely what kind of Christianity you're talking about. Advocate repeal all environmental laws, except a new one that makes environmental laws illegal. Campaign on the elimination the minimum wage, child labor, and all other laws which impede corporate prosperity. Say you want to outlaw "unionism", and make sure everybody knows that union activity warrants stoning as well.

Keep demonizing any and all who oppose you. Only make sure that you make it clear that to oppose you is to worship Satan.

There's so much good you can do with your platform. Stop holding back. Let it all go.

11. Welcome to the family, Christian Fundies!
Oh, by the 'family', I mean all of the OTHER people who voted for the Idiot based on campaign promises he never intended to keep.

A Constitutional Amendment banning gay marriage? Good GOD (oops, sorry), you didn't really BELIEVE that he would do it, did you?

Hasn't mentioned WORD ONE about it since you re-installed him in the Oval Office, has he?

Face it, brethren - you've been HAD! Just like the voters who were going to see a return to fiscal responsibility, dignity brought back to DC politics, a more comprehensive prescription drug program for seniors ...

 :nopity:  :nopity:  :nopity:
