60 Minutes has found its spine again. Jim Hansen speaks truth to power.

<snip>
Jim Hansen is one of the top Global Warming scientists. He spent the entire first term of Bush's administration trying to work with Bush on global warming. My wife heard him defend Bush in the first year, expressing his hope that Bush will keep his promises.

This relationship came to an end when Hansen came out in favor of Kerry and attacked Bush's environmental record. Since then Bush has been censoring Jim Hansen, limiting what he could say and who he could say it to.

Tonight, on 60 Minutes, Jim Hansen fought back big time. The gist of teh segment was that Bush's administration listens only to lawyers and oil interests when it comes to warming, has those lawyers EDIT SCIENTIFIC REPORTS, and censors anyone who disagrees with the administration's party line. Nothing was held back. Bush was given no quarter. It was made clear that we are in grave danger from global warming, the danger is accelerating, and Bush has been PREVENTING anything from being done about it.
<snip>

Truth is our most powerful weapon.

Peace.:patriot:

1. Link to 60 Minutes - Very Good Show Tonight
They actually had a NASA representative sitting in the room during the interview - I guess they thought they could intimidate this man.

3. Yep. If we don't change in 10 years the planet is doomed
Most of us who have seen the rise in asthmatics know the air is worsening. Our world is being polluted beyond the human tolerance.

The intensity and frequency of storms, fires, etc, also show this.

But W says "Be happy, no problem" But he always says that. Each day brings more profit to the globalists.

22. Well, I am not sure we have even ten years
I've read some other POVs and I think we're already at the tipping point.

But, not to take away from the thread, I'm glad he was able to tell it like it is - the wholesale taking away of truth through the machinations of White House lawyers.

CBS fined $3.6 million for indecent programming
By JENNIFER C. KERRThe Associated PressWASHINGTON —

A government crackdown on indecent programming resulted in a proposed fine of $3.6 million against dozens of CBS stations and affiliates on Wednesday — a record penalty from the Federal Communications Commission.
....
The network can appeal the decision to the FCC. The company has 30 days to ask for reconsideration and provide an explanation as to why the network should not be held liable.
The proposed fine was among decisions from the agency stemming from more than 300,000 complaints it received concerning nearly 50 TV shows broadcast between 2002 and 2005.
Rejecting an appeal by CBS, the FCC also upheld its previous $550,000 fine against 20 of the network's stations for the Janet Jackson "wardrobe malfunction" at the Super Bowl two years ago.
These were the first fines issued under FCC Chairman Kevin Martin, clearing a backlog of investigations into indecency complaints. The commission issued no fines last year.

21. was that the very same cbs news that tonight
had a segment on the 6:30 national news about the upcoming hurricane season, and the "alleged" global warming, and they did not mention one word about mr. hansen of last night's 60 minutes broadcast?

i saw both, and it was disgusting. one pretty much cancelled out the other.

no mention of the opinions of the foremost weather expert on the PLANET, nor his broadcast proof that the administration lackies discrediting global warming are all lawyers and politicans, actively rewriting reports and studies to support the "some say" arguments. none are scientists.

cbs can now have it both ways.

see? they broadcast a 60 minutes segment on global warming (which was 45 minutes late, to start with) AND they broadcast a news segment claiming it was all much ado about nothing, just normal climate change.

and of course the lead story was another anemic effort to show how iraq is on its way to democracy.

i say it is time to give iraq BACK to saddam, and let him sort it out.

there is no news to watch anymore.

damn, we need al gore...

:grr:

24. I was glad to see the piece
I don't normally watch 60 Minutes anymore, because I don't believe they have been behaving like professional journalists for years now.

I am reserving the right to remain cynical, however, now that it's easier for them to jump into the feeding frenzy as a result of others taking the lead and the smell of blood in Washington (not the most graceful statement there, but I think the meaning is somewhat clear).

It will be interesting to learn how they respond and act upon the mail that they get.
