Bush: "I never linked Saddam Hussein to 9/11"
Today in a speech and the question and answer secession after the speech Bush claimed that he had never claimed that Saddam Hussein and Iraq were linked to 9/11. This guy is just amazing. I never thought he would go this far. After linking Saddam Husein and Iraq to 9/11 for years Bush tried to act as if he had never done so. I am still in somewhat of a state of shock. How could he even think he could get away with a lie like this. If you want to read about the story go to www.thinkprogress.org.

11. In fact, it wasn't difficult at all
Edited on Mon Mar-20-06 06:54 PM by MissMillie
"With nuclear arms or a full arsenal of chemical and biological weapons, Saddam Hussein could resume his ambitions of conquest in the Middle East and create deadly havoc in that region. And this Congress and the America people must recognize another threat. Evidence from intelligence sources, secret communications, and statements by people now in custody reveal that Saddam Hussein aids and protects terrorists, including members of al Qaeda. Secretly, and without fingerprints, he could provide one of his hidden weapons to terrorists, or help them develop their own.

"Before September the 11th, many in the world believed that Saddam Hussein could be contained. But chemical agents, lethal viruses and shadowy terrorist networks are not easily contained. Imagine those 19 hijackers with other weapons and other plans -- this time armed by Saddam Hussein. It would take one vial, one canister, one crate slipped into this country to bring a day of horror like none we have ever known. We will do everything in our power to make sure that that day never comes."

http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2003/01/20030128-19.html

"The issue facing our nation and the world is the extension of the war on terror to places like Iraq. Prior to September the 11th, there was apparently no connection between a place like Iraq and terror. Oh, sure, he had run some terrorist networks out of his country, and that was of concern to us. But it was very difficult to link a terrorist network and Saddam Hussein to the American soil. As a matter of fact, it was very difficult to link any attack on the American soil, because prior to September the 11th, we were confident that two oceans could protect us from harm."

http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2003/02/20030209-1.html

"Saddam Hussein has a long history of reckless aggression and terrible crimes. He possesses weapons of terror. He provides funding and training and safe haven to terrorists who would willingly deliver weapons of mass destruction against America and other peace-loving countries."

17. One more
in the first Presidential debate 9/30/04:

"I would hope I never have to. I understand how hard it is to commit troops. Never wanted to commit troops. When I was running -- when we had the debate in 2000, never dreamt I'd be doing that. But the enemy attacked us, Jim, and I have a solemn duty to protect the American people, to do everything I can to protect us. I think that by speaking clearly and doing what we say and not sending mixed messages, it is less likely we'll ever have to use troops. But a president must always be willing to use troops. It must -- as a last resort. I was hopeful diplomacy would work in Iraq. It was falling apart. There was no doubt in my mind that Saddam Hussein was hoping that the world would turn a blind eye."

9. I don't think the Propagandist ever said Saddam was behind 9/11
But they sure intimated it, esp. Cheney, during the run-up to the war.

Google for Devon Largio and check out the study done on the change in rhetoric post-9/11.

18. But there is this statement
The use of armed forces against Iraq is consistent with the United States and other countries continuing to take the necessary actions against international terrorists and terrorist organizations, including those nations, organizations or person who planned, authorized, committed, or aided the terrorist attacks that occurred on September 11, 2001.

violation of the cease-fire agreement by continuing to have and produce WMDs.

At the propaganda tour yesterday, * responded to one questioner about 16 UN resolutions against Iraq. The questioner should have fired back with, "What about the multiple dozens against Israel?"

.. and what "linked" means. In this case, his statements were factually correct but they were intended to decieve. I call statements that are intentionally designed to be deceptive lies and Bush can barely get out two sentences without telling one.

12. He might never have directly said Saddam Hussein was involved
in 9/11, but by the Scare-Monger-In-Chief taking care to mention 9/11 in the same breath just about every time he publicly spoke the name of evil-doer Saddam Hussein, it had the desired effect on the zombifed, MSM consuming public who no doubt made the linkage in their own minds, and in all likelyhood exactly as planned by Rove and the other puppet string pullers behind the curtain.

From "Brainwashing America," by Dr. Norman Livergood:

In an earlier article, I reviewed the varied aspects of personality profiling and simulation. While serving as Head of the Artificial Intelligence Department at the U.S. Army War College, 1993-1995, I conducted studies on profiling, psychological programming, and brainwashing. I explored and developed personality simulation systems, an advanced technology used in military war games, FBI profiling, political campaigning, and advertising. Part of my discovery was that:

* unenlightened human minds are combinations of infantile beliefs and emotional patterns

* these patterns can be simulated in profiling systems

* these profiling systems can be used to program and control people

Personality simulation systems are being used to create political campaigns that apply voter profiles to control their voting behavior. TV commercials and programs use personality simulation to profile viewers to control their purchasing and viewing behaviors. And sophisticated propaganda and brainwashing techniques are being used by the Bush junta to keep American citizens under control.

16. He was careful not to explicitly claim it,
Edited on Mon Mar-20-06 07:08 PM by Crunchy Frog
only to imply it very, very strongly. I can remember how he would always use "9/11" and "Saddam Hussein" in the same sentences, over and over again, without explicity claiming a linkage but letting it appear that there was one. It's one of the factors that convinced me that all of his arguements were full of shit. I will always wonder why so many of our Democrats in Congress didn't see the same thing.

21. Direct Connection
Bush said that he never claimed that there was a "direct connection" between Iraq and 9/11. Maybe he expanded on this comment later in the speech, but he did say "direct connection". I just listened to the sound bite on the Rachel Maddow Show.

24. So what if Bush said that in his answer
No one was or is claiming that Bush said "saddam gave the order for 911". That is what is known as a "straw man". It was Bush saying he and they never said there was a connection between Saddam and 911. Bush says they and HE specifically never did it.

They did.

They did and the MSM repeated the lie so much that at the time of the invasion something like 70% of the American People believed that Saddam was involved with the attacks on 911 and they STILL say the same thing today every time they are asked about it. I heard Cheney say several times that "we're fighting this war because we were attacked on 911" again implying that Saddam Hussein was involved in the 911 attacks, which is a LIE and what we're talking about in this thread.

25. like I said, I heard a different quote.
I didn't hear him say that he didn't make a connection. I heard him say that he said SH didn't give the order.

As you can see by my post above, I have given a number of examples where Bush DID make a connection. I am NOT disagreeing with you.

So back off.
