Why don't we tax the Iraqis?
This great idea just popped into my head this morning.

I wonder why no one ever thought of it before.

We have a daunting financial crisis on the Federal Government level. This has spread down to the state and local governments and services due to decreased funding from DC. So in order to alleviate at least some to this problem we could tax them.

We could tax all their business transactions through some sort of official imprint or official marking or something.

The country is rich rich rich in natural resources (oil, the little talked about WATER, and weaponry) so we could tax that too.

If nothing else we could have them pay for our expenses in bringing them freedom.

I know it is a bit of a revolutionary idea but it might just work.

:D

1. You're kidding, right?
You mean, we could have them pay for our expenses in invading their country.

2. We are bringing "freedom" and "happiness" to Iraqis.
Oil revenues from their oil fields that we are supposed to have put back into operation are supposed to pay for everything.

3. Can we recall the 1770s?
Because the British decided the tax the colonists since the British were going broke fighting in the colonies. Viva la'Revolucion

5. Actually, the tea tax was the first corporate welfare
The East India Company, one of the world's first corporations, was going under so the British forced the colonists to buy the company tea by taxing all the other importers. Twas corporate welfare that sparked the Boston Tea Party.

so much nicer then stealing.

6. Most of the people are unimployed
with extreme inflation and limited electricity and gas. Maybe we should build the infrastructure before we tax for it.

7. Better yet, why don't we tax the top 1% of individuals and the top 10% of
corporations in the US much more heavily?

Oh, well, yes, I see. Never mind.

8. Why not? You won Iraq, fair and square, right?
It's about time those ungrateful Iraqis started showing their appreciation.

And who do they think they are, keeping America's oil under their sand?

19. Because Then They're a Colony
If we tax a soverign country with an elected government and they have no elected representatives in the legislative body that is levying taxes on them we've made them a serfdom, colony, protectorate or other such thing. We might as well proclaim our annexation if we start taxing Iraqis.

If you don't recall we rebelled against a king and country that did the same thing to us, threw their vastly superior military forces off our land and out of our waters.

20. So, I suppose this is why they have US financed
universal health care; military protection and US financed Food and building programs.

Strange how we don't do any of this, (except military protection), for our own citizens, but are more than willing to pay for another countrie's "basic needs".

BTW...now that our military 'protection' is being used in Iraq, I guess we don't have all that much here...

22. I have an idea! We should make them collect Coalition bullet casings,
have them take them to the recycling plant (if it's still standing) and force them to hand over what they make.

Sure, that's money that could otherwise go for food, but these lazy Iraqis need to start earning their keep in their occupied country. :sarcasm:
