Rasmussen: "Montana Senate: Burns burnt?"
Looks like we've got Montana, if all goes well..
"All goes well" of course, would be a miracle...

----------------------------------

March 21, 2006--Senator Conrad Burns is now lagging behind both potential Democratic opponents in the race for his Senate seat.

In the latest Rasmussen Reports poll, Burns trails State Senate President Jon Tester 46% to 43%. In our last poll he was neck and neck with Tester. Burns trails State Auditor John Morrison 48% to 43%.

In the rolling average of our last three polls, Tester leads Burns 46% to 45% and Morrison leads Burns 47% to 44%.

Rumors abound that Senator Conrad will bow out and be replaced by either Congressman Denny Rehberg (thought to be interested in running should Burns step aside) or former Governor Mark Racicot (thought to be reluctant, but strongly preferred by many).

1. Let's hope he doesn't quit
because as the poll shows either of the other republicans could easily defeat either dem. We need Burns to win this race.

4. It all depends on who comes out to vote in these elections.
You can't feel that great about such a small lead in a heavily red state. You want to be up by about 5% to start feeling comfortable, just because it's so much more likely that Republican GOTV will be more effective there than ours will.

Still, it's QUITE optimistic!

5. Maybe we have the MT seat currently held by Con-man Burns and
maybe we don't. Republican Keenan just announced he's running against Burns in the primary. There could still be others. (Tomorrow is the last day to file)

Burns has a huge campaign war chest which if effectively spent might turn around public opinion.

I am enjoying the current state of affairs though....

7. Hey JQ, if you think about it.. maybe you can update the info later?
After the filing date is closed, it would be great if someone in Montana could fill us in on who the final candidates are.

11. Election Website
For updated coverage of House, Senate, and Governor elections check out http://electionpredictions.blogspot.com . I recently stumbled upon the site and found it quite interesting and it has a wealth of information.

The filing deadline for Montana has passed and Rehberg will not be challenging Burns and niether will Racicot.
