By Charlie Savage, Globe Staff | March 24, 2006

WASHINGTON -- When President Bush signed the reauthorization of the USA Patriot Act this month, he included an addendum saying that he did not feel obliged to obey requirements that he inform Congress about how the FBI was using the act's expanded police powers.

1. The man does not grasp how it works
He thinks he can write laws the way he wants them and bypass a whole branch of government!

DEMS on the Hill... you gonna let him keep doing that? :wtf:

2. During the Civil War, when Lincoln suspended Habeus Corpus
He informed Congress that they could change it if they wanted to. They chose to support his decision on their own terms. Bush, unlike Lincoln, seems to believe that there is no Legislative branch.

3. I am beside myself over this
Edited on Fri Mar-24-06 01:27 PM by pepperbear
I mean, we have this great big over-site system set in place...and it can be done away with a stroke of a pen in a manner that is obviously supposed to remain on the "down low." I must be ignorant...

CAN THE POTUS REALLY DO WHATEVER HE WANTS NOW? and how much outrage will there be from BOTH sides of the aisle? Given the current public perception of the bush regime, don't you think this takes a wee bit of hubris? The thing is, I am wondering what they know that we don't about the upcoming midterms/2008 election that we don't know.

Am I being paranoid, or do you think the fix is in? Do you think that, just when the country is waking up to the fact that the policies of this administration are doing more harm than good, the usual suspect issues (Gay marriage, abortion etc) will be enough to make us red ALL OVER AGAIN?!

please help talk me down off of this ledge!
