Few Democrats will support Feingold on his censure motion...
and no Republicans. The Party is a stiff. They are frozen with indecision. Why gamble with such a proposal at this time when all they have to do is sit back and let the Repubs self-destruct? So, most of them will fall in behind Arlen Specter and the other Repubs and decide this is not the time for such an act as censure. After all, it is the "base" that supports Feingold and the base is not the Democratic Party.

2. It's very important for Dem Leadership to stick with their "plan."
Their plan will in the end "outfox" the Repugs and they will be proven correct for sitting back and allowing the Repugs to have enough rope to hang themselves.

Enough rope......enough rope...... (That rope could stretch around the world a few times by now) :eyes:

3. The problem is that the Repugs won't self destruct
Six months ago, we were convinced we would win, the Repugs were out of issues, they were out of everything. Corruption, Bribe taking, DeLay arrested. We watched Scooter get arrested. We were riding the top of the wave we thought we were undefeatable.

Now, six months later, We are far less convinced of our victory come this November. We watched the Repugniks gin up more issues that we swore six months ago they would never approach.

We said they would never ban Abortion, they needed the election issue, six months later, it's banned in South Dakota, and other states are following the lead. In another couple years, we will have to set up underground railroads to get women to a state where their right to choose is protected.

We said they would never go towards Immigration reform, they needed the cheap labor to run their businesses. We even said that Immigration would be a distraction from the real issues of Repugnik Corruption. Six months later, protests break out all over, the anti-war demonstrations even before the War in Iraq was a drop in the bucket. Today we maintain that the issues of War in Iraq are more important, despite the obvious preference of the public for Immigration discussions. http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x2536122

We flushed our chances for a majority down the tubes, and maintain our focus on the scandals, instead of the issues.

One of my first posts was that we needed to tell people that we believe in the rights of the individuals, the principals of equal justice before the law. We needed to campaign on the progressive ideals, and was told that I was wrong, and needed more TIME and POSTS here to be taken seriously. I don't do the one word responses that many here do.

Half a million people turn out in Los Angeles, and we consider it a distraction. Students pour out of classrooms, and we demand that we focus on the ball.

Progressive Issues win elections, in the long run the Liberal ideals win the day. We abandoned those ideals, and those issues, and now when they smack us in the face, we decide it's a distraction from the real issues.

We have already lost in November, losing seats in Congress, because as a party we ran right, instead of standing firm on our principals. Doomed by our own narrow vision, we have thrown away the silver platter victory we were handed.

4. Well said..... While our leaders cower in the bunker with their "plan"

the ones who speak out are ignored. I can tell you from my experience here in NC that your average Democrat doesn't know who John Conyers is and what he's done. Russ Feingold is some guy from the North somewhere who is bloviating because he wants to be President and few really know or care what Jack Abramoff has done. Except for a band of Progressives pushing for voting reform ....most Dems are just sitting back afraid that their boss will find out they are a Dem and fire them...or they will lose business if they talk about anything except the latest basketball scores.

Turnout is down in the Primaries so far for Dems.... and if we can't count on Dem turnout in the Fall elections the RW Churches will sure turn their faithful flocks out. We will lose again. I'm already trying to prepare myself. No amount of flyers, phone calls and walking the streets will turn out our Dems. We did that in '04 and look what happened. Voting machines are already ordered and most states will find that lost votes, hacked votes and intimidation rule. It will be the same thing as in 2000, '02 and '04.

The Dem Operatives telling those in DC to just sit back and wait it out while the Repugs implode are the same as those who've been losing us elections.

There are so many non-controversial issues our Dem Leadership could be talking about....Bringing back the "Fairness Doctrine" for one would be a start. But, they hide in the bushes or give some lukewarm support to whatever John McCain yaps on about thinking that they will look bi-partisan and folks will just love that. Frankly they should just declare support for McCain and be done with it. We can all vote for the Repug who will bring "bi-partisanship" back to American in '08. :puke: :sarcasm:

everyone has stated the obvious, (apparently it needs to be repeated over and over again for the Tin Ear Brigade) - i have nothing more to add, except - that the train wreck consequences for both parties will impact possibly a real change in American Politics, possibly a real political revolution. I guess we just hang on to our seats, I think it's going to be a very rough ride going in to 2008...

6. From what we are seeing about "Election Reform" ..the "Train Wreck seems
a good analogy...

Since 2000 Fiasco...how far have we come? There's certainly a Left Resistance that's unified...but not growing. That's my worry. The Right can STILL turn out their vote where the Left is much more splintered.

The Activists/Grassroots Dems VS. the Dem Party Establishment Heirarchy.

The DIVISION only GETS WORSE. Then...there are Dems caught inbetween who don't know who John Conyers is...or what the Voting Rights groups are really talking about. I call them the "Brain Dead Middle of the Road Dems" who don't seek info....watch the "Tube" and think that Bush has screwed up ....but don't have an "answer to Bush's charming self."

I don't know how we can overcome this. We've had since 2000 to do it...yet our THINK TANKS (small as they are) and our Elected Officials always seem to be fighting their own Base...but..then...THEIR BASE IS RICH...it's not US!

7. More than you think will come around eventually...
If Feingold had lined up more support first (which he could have), it would be a quicker process...but I think eventually you will see a significant number. The Republicans are handing the initiative back to the Democrats. AFter a week of process stories, the RNC decided to air ads critical of the resolution. This will take the focus off the process within the Democratic Party and back onto the merits of censure. This will help draw in more support IMO.

9. ALL GOOD IDEAS START WITH ONE PERSON
Besides, the CENSURE move is leading to paralysis in the Repugnant Party. As long as they are circling the wagons they are not getting anything done. At 20 hours a week they only have 540 hours before they lose control of both houses. I wouldn't be mad if they censured THE KING for snickering or for losing his National Guard Jacket.
