But - as a Republican.

-----------------
Potts, the state's first openly transgender candidate, is one of the Republican challengers to incumbent Roy Blunt in Missouri's 7th Congressional District race.

"Part of my reason for running is, not so much to make transgender or gay issues the centerpiece of my campaign, but to show that we are all Americans and that anybody can run for any office," Potts said. "America was built out of diversity, and people need to stop being afraid and feel like we have to limit ourselves based on our gender or color or gender preference."

Although Potts considers herself an independent, she says she is running as a Republican because she believes in the party's traditional platform of financial conservatism, states' rights and a strong national defense. She is pushing for term limits, debt reduction and building up the National Guard.

2. I believe Potts is terribly misguided
"Traditional platform of financial conservatism?" She's joking right? "States Rights?" Republicans are all for state's rights unless it interferes with the party's goals. Piss poor excuse to run as a republican. "Strong National Defense?" Her party is destroying our military. We already have term limits, they occur everytime we have an election. "Debt reduction?" That is truly rich coming from a republican today. And, why pray tell does the national guard need to be built up? Constantly boggles my mind how people rationalize their political positions.

4. I don't think Potts fits Rahm Emmanuel's profile of what a candidate
should look like: no LGBTs!

5. I don't care what a candidate looks like
I care about what they believe and advocate. Ms Potts does not share my view of what's right for America. She can run if she chooses. I'm a slightly overweight bald guy, I can run for office as well. Get past the cosmetics and then we can make a decision about who to pull a lever for.
