"Illegal Immigrants"
Is there any reason they aren't made legal and "tracked"* ?

I ask you.

Okay I just wanted to get the maid question into the fray.

I understand that they BROKE THE LAW and must BE PUNISHED and all that.

I have to wonder why we wouldn't update the technology (got computers?) and *gasp* hire --wait for it--- government employees YIKES! to keep track of them instead of useless political postering over something that will never be resolved.

Gee I wonder why we wouldn't want to actually get that done...

* Where are they? How much are they being paid? Working conditions? Any contagious diseases?

1. Corp. America needs them!
Most of us would not do that kind of work... not for that pay anyway.

The current laws are not being adhered to... due to corp. need and greed.

I'm watching protests mount from my 18th story perch in downtown LA! Woooo! I want them all to be citizens. Voting citizens!

2. What I'd like to know is what advanced technology does Mexico
have that we don't have. You can't just drive across the border into Mexico and not get caught and deported at some point. Let's face it, them Mexicans are just so much smarter than we Americans, or could it be we don't really want to catch them and deport them? hmmmmmmm

3. Apparently, you don't understand . . .
<<I understand that they BROKE THE LAW and must BE PUNISHED and all that.>>

Oh really? Then why the text equivalent of eye rolling?

I don't know why it is so hard for DU'ers to understand that illegal immigration has very real costs on society. All this talk about how illegal immigrants fill jobs the rest of us don't want is bullshit. Illegal immigrants simply make it possible for employers to fill jobs without paying market rates. It amazes me that DU'ers are willing to tolerate a system that depresses wages.

And yes, there's that pesky little thing about breaking the law, not to mention fundamental fairness. We should have a system that rewards people who play by the rules (i.e., legal immigrants) and punishes people who don't play by the rules (i.e., illegal immigrants and those who employ them).

4. I agree
If American citizens were being offered a competitive wage, they would absolutely do the jobs being given to illegals.
If the Immigration Department weren't overrun with dealing with illegal alien issues, they'd have more time and resources to process the immigrants trying to come here legally. What would happen in rush hour traffic when a wise guy uses the shoulder to bypass the cars in the legitimate lanes? If there was a cop around, they'd be pulled over and ticketed, right?
And where is Homeland security in all of this? We can't just ease the rules and give illegals from Mexico a pass without giving people from other countries a pass also. Where are the security precautions for those running from the law in their own countries?
Finally, I saw a protest sign that quotes the American Pledge of Allegiance "with liberty and justice for all" in a sea of flags that were clearly not the American Flag. If they are going to use our pledge of Allegiance, shouldn't they abide by it and fly our flag?

5. You want to track illegal aliens?
All 12 million of them? You think the same government that leaves FEMA trailers to rot in a mud field in Arkansas and can't get body armor to Iraq can track 12 million people who don't want to be tracked?
