Fourth man charged in GOP phone-jamming scam

Fourth man charged in GOP phone-jamming scam

March 27, 2006 12:25 PM

The Associated Press

CONCORD, N.H. The former co-owner of a telemarketing firm pleaded not guilty today to taking part in a Republican scheme to jam Democrats' get-out-the-vote phone lines on Election Day 2002.

Thirty-four-year-old Shaun Hansen of Spokane, Washington, was indicted by a federal grand jury on March eighth. But the charges were not made public until he was arraigned today in New Hampshire.

Prosecutors say Hansen paid 25-hundred dollars to have employees at the Sandpoint, Idaho-based Mylo Enterprises place hundreds of hang-up calls to phone lines installed to help voters get rides to the polls on November fifth, 2002.

He was charged with conspiring to commit and aiding the commission of telephone harassment.

1. Phone Hacks were done in Ohio in Ohio in 04 too
I heard them. I tried to call the election fraud reporting line .... it played
weird music and had strange voices ..... with in an hour of Kerry conceding
the hack was replaced with a busy signal.

The person running the 2002 phone hack in N.H. after he was arrested
was given a raise and promotion by the RNC .... which has also been paying his
legal bills.

5. Look how long they can frag out a case, too. They control almost all the
judiciary in key districts and use every legal trick in the book to get bothersome suits like this slow-walked till past the next election cycle.

3. How do republicans sleep at night?
It must be a prerequisite that you have NO conscience if you wish to join their party.

Shame should drive any decent person to choose again...

Telemarketer charged in phone jam
Pleads not guilty in GOPelection scheme

The former co-owner of a telemarketing firm pleaded not guilty yesterday to participating in a Republican scheme to jam Democrats' get-out-the-vote phone lines on Election Day 2002.

Shaun Hansen, 34, of Spokane, Wash., was indicted by a federal grand jury on March 8, but the charges were not made public until his arraignment yesterday.

Hansen is charged with conspiring to commit and aiding the commission of telephone harassment. Prosecutors say he was paid $2,500 to have employees at Idaho-based Mylo Enterprises place hundreds of hang-up calls to phone lines installed to help voters get rides to the polls on Nov. 5, 2002. Among the contests decided that day was the close U.S. Senate race in which Republican Rep. John Sununu beat outgoing Democratic Gov. Jeanne Shaheen.

Three others have been convicted for their roles. Former state Republican executive director Chuck McGee served seven months in prison. Allen Raymond, former president of Virginia-based GOP Marketplace LLC, is serving a three-month sentence. James Tobin, who had served as New England chairman of President Bush's re-election campaign, faces up to five years in federal prison.
