Which Governor would make the best President?
Every President since Carter has been a former overnor except Bush 41. That seems to be the trend. Assuming that trend continues (not saying it will, but let's assume it does) what current Governor would make a good President in 2008?

Here is a list in case you need it.

1. Can't say for sure who would, but
Tim Pawlenty, the smarmy tool of KKKarl Rove, would not.

24. I think he tried out for a pro team as a kid and said he'd been offered
a contract when, in reality, no contract was actually offered. Something like that. If Bush can snort coke as a young man, I thin Bill can be forgiven his sin-though there is certainly a higher standard for Democrats than Republicans.

31. NO FRIGGIN WAY!!!
Richardson is a steadfast DLCer. He illegally wiped the memory from the electronic voting machines after the 04 election, even though there was a mountain of evidence that fraud took place.

you might like him on the surface, but he is on the wrong side of the fence on the most important issue, which is the voting machines because we can't vote the bastards out of office until we get rid of Diebold. I've heard him on the radio expressing confidence that the 04 election was clean. He is full of it. I don't know if it's ignorance or something worse. But we need people who realize there's a problem with our election system or we have no chance.

I used to be a big Bill Richardson fan. Not anymore.

The more I read the more I feel sick to my stomach.

These are the people who are supposed to be the future of our party? No fucking way.

Has to be the best choice.
Female.
Totally red state of Kansas.
Popular.
Stays under the radar.

Would make a decent running mate for Clark.

9. Hmmmmm....
This is a tough one but of the sitting Governors I'm inclined to say Schweitzer of Montana.

Now, of the former Governors who actually are running I'd say Mark Warner, former Governor of Virginia.

10. Schweitzer for sure.
Every time I hear him, I'm more impressed by his ideas for renewable energy and saving the environment.

He's a hunter and a fisherman, so he could appeal to moderates, and he speaks really well. Unfortunately, he likes being governor of Montana too much!

15. I caught a little of him on Ed Schultz the other day.
What he had to say about the glaciers in Glacier National Park melting was really frightening.

They are the source for several of the rivers in the USA from the runoff-- the Missouri and Columbia being two of the biggies. Much of the power for cities on those rivers comes from hydro-electric power.

No water, no power.

He also talked about the spruce trees from NW Montana all the way up to British Columbia. There is some sort of spruce worm that is only kept in check by the extreme temperatures.

Without the major cold that they usually get every winter, that bug is starting to do some major damage to those trees. No trees, no oxygen.

Why won't the other people in charge get it?

19. Isn't he just brand new to political office? I likehim, too, but
president is a bit of a leap. I heard him on Al Franken's show and he was impressive. I especially like that he is from the far west. NO MORE Northeastern liberal governors, please! I'm from the Northeast but they're too easily knocked down.

I liked Napolitano until she did a bad on electronic voting machines.

Looking into the others...

28. At this point,
I'd rather have a smart, savvy, outspoken amateur than a by-the-book, same ole same ole career politician.

I think that's part of the reason why we're in this mess now.

Just because he's green doesn't mean he doesn't have some fantastic ideas.

33. Yes, I definitely think a new face has to be it
for our next prez candidate. But that to me would be Wes Clark, who is a new face to many people out there. Schweitzer might be a good veep pick but for 2012, not 2008. Let him govern a state to get his experience. I think HE would be the better for it. While it's nice to dream about a knight in shining armor (oh how I wish!)it takes some hard work to get there.

25. wow, I didn't know that about the worms
but it makes sense. Jesus. The obvious repercussions are frightening enough, but when you start thinking about all the subtle repercussions and the delicate balance of nature and all that :scared:

I don't know if the other folks in charge don't get it, or if they just think they can make enough money in the meantime to buy their way out of it :grr:

16. Being from the Bay State...
You'd think I'd have a good Democratic governor to support.

But for some reason, we haven't had a top-notch Democratic nominee for guv since ol' Mike Dukakis (though I'll grant that Bill Weld was one of the last of those less-noxious, Rockefeller-style Repubs). And this year, crusty Tom Reilly is the insider's choice vs. progressive Deval Patrick, the East Coast's answer to Barack Obama.

If you don't know our boy from Massachusetts (by way of Michigan and Utah), Mitt Romney is a name and Stepford-pretty face you'll be seeing a lot of in the coming presidential campaign.

Like Bush, he's a powerful politican's son who somehow ran as a political outsider.

My favorite recent Romney moment was in a dust-up about whether "Catholic social service agencies could be exempted from a law requiring them to place some adoptive children in gay households."

Seven Catholic Charities board members resigned over the Vatican-ordered discrimination -- and the state's anti-discrimination laws prohibited the move from taking place.

But leave it Mitt to help save the day for bigotry, saying: "... legislation may need to be filed to provide an exemption based on religious principles."

Presumably Romney will also encourage Jihadists to seek an exemption from anti-terrorism laws, as long as their attacks are religiously motivated.

She is one of many reasons I think the requirement to be born in the US should be abolished. If someone would make a good President, what does it matter where he or she is born?

and has since the mid90s.

ANY Dem could win if we had a news media that wasn't working 24/7 to protect the fascist agenda.
