The Jill Caroll backfire... My wife's thoughts
My wife was saying how she believe that Jill was the victim of a Rovian plot... They-the Bush administration-- needed a Iraqi Halloway something that would bring some sort of support to the Iraq war.

My wife was convience of that when the picture of Kill came out with her captors and one of the captors was wearing American clothing and shoes and the name of the "group" holding her.

1. I don't think that is true
however, I absolutely understand why your wife would THINK such a thing

2. More likely that
the group holding her got paid to release her. Paid a lot of money.

Zalmay Khalizdad made the following statement: "No U.S. person entered into any arrangements with anyone. By 'U.S. person' I mean the United States mission,"

That's a very specific denial.

Sounds to me like we got a friendly someone to pay off her captors.

Why? Because we needed some good news out of Iraq.

10. I thought the same thing!
Now they're gonna say "Look how well things are going! Jill didn't get her head chopped off!"

Geez, ya think maybe if we weren't in Iraq at all she wouldn't have been abducted in the first place?:sarcasm:

3. I disagree
If it were a Rove plot, she would not be talking of the respectful treatment she received, and there would have been a huge "military raid" to rescue her rather than simply dropping her off somewhere.

On the other hand, I have no problem believing that she was released because someone high up made a deal.

5. Very early on when she was taken CNN would show a picture of Jill
sitting on the floor and three men where standing up(faces covered.) holding guns in the air.

6. If it was a plot they would have had her killed to stir up outrage
The one way to guarantee that the public's attitude would quickly spin back in favor of this war would be for the terrorists to kill a woman hostage.

7. She's wouldn't have been
treated well. If BushCo wanted to stir up sympathy they would have thrown in a bunch of mistreatment to seal the deal.

My take is that Jill doesn't want to be too negative since there are still lots of people being held hostage.

9. I'm wondering how long it will be before
bush* or another GOPer tries to use her as a Iraq prop, and if she will go along with it
