Information is a product.
There is a demand for information. People want information in the same way that they may want a new IPod. They have a desire to know what is happening around them.

This very sentence that you are now scanning with your eyes proves the point that you are always searching for information. You are reading this because you are looking for something new. That's why they call it the "news". That's where the "newspaper" gets its name.

We are much like an online newspaper except that we are not censored or edited and we can say what we want to say. The ideas with merit will rise to the top like cream and the others will sink. However, the way we communicate the idea is very important.

Every post here on DU and other blogs and forums is a product, just like any story in the newspaper or on the TV. We are in competition with those folks because we are "selling" the same product - information. I think it is beneficial to us all to keep a certain perspective on the Internet. It is a "new" way to get information. It is a new way to distribute the "product".

There are different facets to "information". It may be "fact-based" or it may simply be "opinion". Either way, it cannot be distributed without the ideas and the capacity to communicate. Do not underestimate the power of your "information".

1. Unfortunately...
.. or, fortunately, depending on how you look at it, we are censored and edited.

The mods have a tough job sifting through the thousands of posts a day here and can be excused some actions. Still, there are many who no longer can post here... some, obvious freepers.

So, the question is: have we lost some important information, or not? And will this post get deleted?
