Protect your yard signs from partisan attack
Tanglefoot - Right wing wacko deterrent

Recently in the progressive liberal democratic bastion of Ann Arbor, Michigan (where I live) there was an organized campaign to tear down or vandalize as many Impeach Bush and Stop the War signs as possible. My Stop the War yard sign had been up almost since the war began and had set me back five bucks. Afew months before the miscreants struck, I had also purchased an Impeach Bush yard sign from a woman selling them in the neighborhood. She had seen my Stop the War yard sign and knocked on my front door to offer me the Impeach Bush sign (it was also five smackers). I caved, bought one and put in a highly visible area of my front lawn. <snip>

Read more here about protecting your yard signs from vicious partisan attack during the run up to the 2006 midterm elections.

10. I have a GSD and my signs were still vandalized.
My neighbors also have dogs and their signs too were vandalized. My feeling is I would rather not involve my dog in any incidents with these right wing fanatics. The dog could get hurt or they could sue if they got hurt by my dog. My dog is a guard dog though.

19. Cross my fence in Texas
and it's Operation YOYO. I have 7 dogs-large ones. They're quite friendly if I introduce you to them but vandals are not on the A list.

3. I guess a video camera recording to tape that can be turned into the
police is out of the question?

4. I bought a mini-vid surveillance camera
when my Kerry sign was trashed 3 weeks in a row. About $80. I recorded 6hrs every night to a VHS set to SLP. Though the camera was invisible, my signs miraculously stayed up after that.

9. That's good if you can afford it... but if you are on a shoe string budget
...you can try the Tanglefoot. Also, it is a nice way to punish them for their misdeeds. How well does the video camera work at night? Do you need to fit it with night vision technology?

15. Not good

fortunately there is a street light in front of our house so we could get an OK image.

Even better, use video and Tanglefoot. It would be worth losing your sign to get of a Freeper encounter with TF.

Edited on Fri Jun-02-06 09:21 PM by rzemanfl
the 50's and 60's folks used to affix single edge razor blades to them at strategic points. Not advocating, just sayin'...

On edit, I should add that this led to smashed, bloody cars.

12. Hilarious!
I thought this part was hilarious!

>>>>>>will leave right wing extremits who attempt to vandalize your yard sign running through the night wondering what the blazes they got on their hands. Let them wonder! They will have a difficult time removing the substance (especially from fabrics), and hopefully it will get on their clothes and car interiors.<<<

Surely, some of those right wing wackos must be germ freaks. I know if I touched something and got a weird substance on my hands I'd go nutz! And the thought of not being able to get it off...

13. Hot Chili Oil.......
In the most obvious places for grabbing and pulling out of the ground, brush on some of this oil which if you aren't careful will burn your mucous membranes.......animals seem to avoid it.

14. barbed wire
is what came to mind while reading the OP... or put your signs in the middle of a rather thorny rose bush, say an Autum Damask or moss rose (think a bottle brush of thorns)...or for the really sadistic, the Tanglefoot with a light coating of Chinese hot pepper oil/habenero sauce...

16. Someone recommended poison ivy after I had my Busby sign vandalized....
a couple of weeks ago. I had an older 2004 election sign up and probably needed to "upgrade" it to one of the newer special election signs anyway.

I was concerned about that recommendation and perhaps the ones here about having someone walking by with a kid that might just touch the sign accidentally and get hurt and being liable for a lawsuit if the wrong person did it. I did think about getting a video camera. Kind of regretted not having one earlier which I had thought about getting after having my car stolen in front of my house in 2004.
