Bush and Condi Rice having an affair??
This is too weird. It's not April Fool's Day, either...

Developing Story - Bush Marriage In Trouble Over Affair With Condi?
Reported by Ellen - June 03, 2006

With all the hoopla over Monicagate, why is the mainstream media ignoring this piece of news from ex-CIA agent, Wayne Madsen?

"A Mayflower Hotel staffer has confirmed that First Lady Laura Bush spent at least one night this past week at the hotel, which is four blocks north of the White House. Mrs. Bush reportedly moved out of the White House after a confrontation with President Bush over his on-going affair with Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice." (June 3, 2006 post)

...A White House source, speaking on background, vehemently denied to WMR that there are marital problems between President Bush and First Lady Laura Bush over a reported extramarital affair between Mr. Bush and Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice. However, two mainstream media sources have confirmed that their sources also have reported an ongoing affair between Mr. Bush and Rice. " (June 2, 2006 post)

From the Madsen Report:

Some Washington observers believe that the recent flare up between Laura Bush and the president stems from the fact that her poll numbers are twice as favorable as her husband's (60 percent to 29 percent). Laura Bush's recent solo missions to New Orleans, Colorado, and an AIDS conference at the United Nations represent a virtual declaration of independence from the most unpopular president in U.S. history. "She's taking a page right out of Hillary's book," said one Washington pundit. Rice, on the other hand, has been very close and loyal to Bush since she signed on as his chief foreign policy adviser in 2000. WMR has been told of intimate encounters between Mr. Bush and Rice on trips to New York City (multiple occasions) and New Orleans following Katrina.

dare not one-up a narcissist!
Geez. If there was ever a recipe for disaster, it's the day that someone close to Bush outshines him. Everyone close to him is picked for their refusal or inability to reveal him for what he is.

Duck!

8. I would love for this to be true
But Wayne Madsen's credibility is right up there with Jason Leopold, Tom Flocco and Bev Harris.

16. I don't care if it is true or not
I say keep this rumor going. Make all three of them deny it repeatedly and then say things like 'I think they doest protest too much' And it's not the sex it is the lying

17. Media Matters contasts the Clinton marriage story to this one:

http://mediamatters.org/items/200605260003

.....Media Matters does not endorse the decision by The New York Times, NBC's Tim Russert, MSNBC's Chris Matthews, The Washington Post's David Broder, and countless other elite media figures to take their cues from tabloids like the Globe, or to pry into the personal lives of political figures. But if they are going to do so, we expect them to be consistent.

As it happens, the cover of the May 29 edition of the Globe contains another sensational headline about another high-profile political couple:

BUSH MARRIAGE BREAKUP!

..........

On Pages 20 and 21, the Globe announces "Bush and Laura's 29-year marriage FALLS APART," adding: "They barely talk to each other," "hey argue when they do speak," and "he's afraid he'll hit the bottle." Quotes in the article attributed to "a longtime friend" include the assertion that "hen the cameras aren't on, they have nothing to do with one another," and that "or all practical purposes, they've broken up." The "family friend" continues: "After their last fight over booze, they just stopped talking -- period." The Globe's report that Laura Bush is concerned that President Bush may "hit the bottle" is reminiscent of a September 21, 2005, National Enquirer article about "Bush's booze crisis," which reported: "Faced with the biggest crisis of his political life, President Bush has hit the bottle again."

Media Matters wonders when we can expect The New York Times to assign a reporter to tally the number of nights the Bushes spend together and to conduct 50 interviews with Republicans to assess their interest in the state of the Bush marriage, or in President Bush's reported relapse -- and when it will run a 2,000-word front-page article on the topic. If it does so, we wonder if Broder will refer to the article as "anything but unsympathetic" to the Bushes.
