SUV gets airborne but can't quite clear house

BY LYNN SAFRANEK

WORLD-HERALD STAFF WRITER

It was a scene worthy of the Dukes of Hazzard:

An SUV crashed through a thick wooden fence early Sunday near 69th and Dodge Streets and launched off an embankment, sending the vehicle airborne for 35 feet.

Unlike the General Lee, this vehicle had no happy landing.

After clearing a 6-foot-tall fence, the SUV plunged through the roof and outer brick wall of a home and ended up inside the kitchen of Dick and Gina Browning, ages 72 and 56.

The damage crumbled the north wall of their home, at 107 S. 69th St., leaving a mess of bricks, insulation, kitchen utensils, shattered plates and gutter remnants.

The scene looked more like a bomb explosion than a car accident, Gina Browning said.

The car made a hole in the wall of the brick home and left debris strewn throughout.

Dick Browning talks with Pat Shannon of Paul Davis Restoration about damage to his home done by an SUV that launched itself over his yard and into his roof, coming to rest in the kitchen.

3. Drunk driving is political because...
The liquor lobbyists are always paying somebody in power to keep law makers from passing stricter laws against drunk driving. As for me, I support (MADD) Mothers Against Drunk Drivers!
