US refuses to compensate vietnam's agent orange victims
yet another example of the US government's total and complete indifference to the havoc and harm it creates. as one who has dealt with the effects of agent orange for over 30 years, I want to know how in the HELL one is supposed to "deal with" a chemical that invades your body and cannot be destroyed or eliminated.

US Won't Compensate Vietnam's Agent Orange Victims: Official

The United States won't compensate Vietnam's Agent Orange victims but will offer advice on dealing with the wartime defoliant, a US official said during a visit by Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld.

When Rumsfeld met Defence Minister Pham Van Tra and military officials, the Vietnamese side had raised the issue of dioxin exposure and contamination from Agent Orange, the senior official said on the sidelines of the visit.

"What we can do is make scientific information available, historical archival information we might have, ... technical advice on how to deal with the situation," the official said.

"We're ready to do more. We agreed to sit down at the expert level and see what we can do," he said.

2. If our government took responsibility
for the evil shit we've done we would all be bankrupt.

Broken treaties with Native Americans, land stolen, people slaughtered
Slavery
Massacres during labor revolts in the late 19th and early 20th century
Our activities historically in the Philipines, in Cuba, throughout Central and South America
Testing done of soldiers and civilians throughout the 20th century
Agent Orange in Vietnam
Depleted Uranium in recent years

From our very beginning, and still continuing today our country has taken the stance that they can do whatever they want and take no responsibility for the outcome.

As much as I would like to see our government come clean, we would all be bankrupt the moment they started to come clean.
