Glance at Tuesday's primaries in 8 states
Some of the key races to watch in Tuesday's elections:
CALIFORNIA:

SPECIAL ELECTION: Voters in conservative San Diego County choose a candidate to serve seven months left in the term of Republican former Rep. Randy "Duke" Cunningham, who was jailed for taking millions of dollars in bribes. GOP former Rep. Brian Bilbray is running against Democrat Francine Busby, a school board member.

GOVERNOR: State Treasurer Phil Angelides and Controller Steve Westly face off in the Democratic primary for a chance to challenge Republican Gov.
Arnold Schwarzeneggerin November.

HOUSE: Seven-term Rep. Richard Pombo (news, bio, voting record), who wants to rewrite the Endangered Species Act, faces a challenge in the GOP primary from former Rep. Pete McCloskey, who helped write the landmark wildlife-protection law.

ATTORNEY GENERAL: Former Gov. Jerry Brown is seeking the Democratic nomination.

PRESCHOOL: Voters consider creating a $2.4 billion universal preschool program that would be funded by taxing the wealthy. The proposal is best known for its most avid supporter, Hollywood director Rob Reiner.

___

IOWA:

GOVERNOR: Secretary of State Chet Culver competes against former Economic Development Director Mike Blouin for the Democratic nomination. The winner will face Republican Rep. Jim Nussle (news, bio, voting record) in November. Gov. Tom Vilsack did not seek a third term, saying only that he wanted to do something different. But Vilsack is the focus of speculation that he may run for president in 2008.

HOUSE: Nussle's decision to run for governor leaves his House seat open, and each party has three candidates seeking a place on the fall ballot.

___

MONTANA:

SENATE: State Auditor John Morrison and state Senate President Jon Tester lead the race for the Democratic nomination to challenge Republican Sen. Conrad Burns (news, bio, voting record), whose poll numbers have sagged because of his ties to disgraced lobbyist Jack Abramoff. Burns was expected to prevail easily over several GOP challengers.

1. Alabama has its primaries tomorrow also.
Roy Moore http://onroysmoore.blogspot.com "The 10 Commandments Judge" v. incumbent Bob Riley as Republicans
George Wallace, Jr. v. "Big Luther" Strange (Repugnicants) (this is a real slog fest on TV, wonderful to behold)
Another multi slugfest in the R. circles from Lt. Gov. to Chief Justice (This is actually too much fun to watch for me)

Now, as for the Democrats: Former Gov. Don Siegelman who lost only by 3000 votes in 2002 but is currently under indictment by the feds v.
Incumbent Lt. Gov. Lucy Baxley (projected to win due to other candidates being unknowns or else under indictment)

Atty. Gen. has an antisemitic holocaust atheist liberterian who also wants to deport/execute all "illegals" unless they are hanged, Larry Darby. He is running on the Democratic ticket. The party wasn't able to get him off the ticket soon enough.

Now, for more fun: the state's own anti-gay marriage amendment is on the ballot with the primaries, instead of the general election in Nov.!

Now you know why I tell everyone I am from Tennessee, as I went to high school there and live within eyesight of the border now!
