Beinart endorses Al Gore on Scarborough Country!
Edited on Tue Jun-06-06 08:33 PM by wyldwolf
Peter Beinart, author of "The Good Fight" mentioned Al Gore specifically when asked what Democrats today are most like Truman and Kennedy.

Paraphrased: He was a foreign policy hawk during the Clinton years, big supporter of the Kosovo imtervention, supported the first Gulf War. He opposed the Iraq war and, in retrospect, that looks like a good decision.

Scarborough agreed. Paraphrased: He may not look like it now, but I believe he would govern as a centrist.

1. Beinart is doing some serious backpeddling in order...
to save his own credibility.

2. Interesting exchange. Quite accurate re Gore IMO.
That is a lot of what is attractive re Gore.

You didn't have to be a pacifist or "anti-war" in general to think the Iraq War was an enormous mistake before it happened.

In a Democratic primary he can attract the left re Iraq and civil liberties, etc, but attract the moderates re his past record. The same actually applies to a general election.

3. The time for Al Gore is (STILL) now!
In 2008, RE-elect the last person legally elected President. His biggest political challenge (seriously) will be resisting the temptation to run under the slogan "Told ya so!" If ever there was anyone who has earned the right to say it, it's Al.

Does anybody have an email address where we can beg Al to run? Or even snail mail? Should we start making pilgrimages to Carthage TN to begin a 2-year vigil?

5. eviltwin2525, I'll go to Cathage TN and BEG him to run for re-election if
you will. Maybe we could get a group to go there (I live about 30 miles north of Nashville)

6. It was amazing - they were talking up his centrism and saying he's only

appealing to the left right now because it helps him and he's still bitter over 2000.

I doubt it - I agree he's a centrist, but has definitely shifted a bit more left. My fear is that he hasn't shifted far enough left to want open government and open books to take out the Bush crime family permanently.
