CA vote - the Diebolds have disappeared in my precinct
Went to vote today, and the Diebolds that I voted on in the last election have disappeared. They were replaced with optical scanner cards that went into a big locked box. I got a stub that simply acknowledged that my vote was taken.
The poll workers were talking across the room about how there were 'accuracy problems' and 'no paper trail', and that's why it had been changed to this. I threw in some comment about 'hearing that the Diebold systems are unreliable'
Is this change to optical scanners an improvement?

BTW, my district had one of the highest tallies against Herr Boobegrabber, at 73%, in the last election. I love my city...

1. The opitcal scanners
do have a piece of paper that can be verified. However, the machines themselves are just as susceptible to corruption as the touch screen.

5. Yeah, I watched in dismay as an ES&S scanner ate my ballot.

I don't know what to believe, but I do know I don't trust the system.

at least there is a paper ballot ...My questions are
what happens if the machine gets full on election day?

and

what happens to my paper ballot once it has been
swallowed by the machine ?

3. At least with optical scanners, there is still a paper ballot
It is something that exists physically and can be examined and counted by hand. That is a vast improvement over touch screens.

4. Hurray, for you and your fair city.
I was extra-super-cautious, and voted on an absentee ballot, and delivered it to my polling place, and made sure it went into the correct box for my precinct, given that three precincts vote in one building.

:hi:
