Why are CA-50 results so slow...
in coming in? Polls have been closed for nearly 2 hours now. This seems very
strange.

8. Christine Pelosi is blogging from campaign HQ. Her last post-

The web page says "ABSENTEE BALLOTS ONLY" and yet it also says 57 of 500 precintcts reporting. In any event we are told the next batch should be uploaded before 10pm, so we are awaiting those numbers and Francine's address to her supporters.

Bowers at MyDD may have solved the 57 precinct cunumdrum-

One mystery solved. In April there were 445 precincts. Now, there are 500 precincts with 57 reporting. In other words, I have a feeling that 57 precints that do not exist are reporting. The early results are clearly all absentee.

http://www.mydd.com/

So the 3k lead is just absentee. Remember that the gopers were predicting a 10K lead on absentees, so this may be great news depending on whether this count is for all of them.

13. Two thoughts
1) What happened in Warren County, OH in the 2004 stolen election (declaring a fake homeland security alert, closing the building to the public while votes were counted) makes it important to notice that one possibility here is that results are being held back until it can be known how many votes need to be shifted to obtain a particular result.

2) That said, I think we want to be patient in general about the speed of vote counting. What we need is hand-counting and it will be slower than electronic "counting." So if you're making any public statements, I think it's important to say that trustworthy results are worth waiting for. Then say whether your particular voting system is providing trustworthy results or not. (You don't need to know if the results are accurate, simply if there is a basis for confidence in the election results.)

Hope this is helpful.
