9/11 Widows respond to Coulter

Statement of September 11th Advocates
Response to "Godless"

We did not choose to become widowed on September 11, 2001. The attack, which tore our families apart and destroyed our former lives, caused us to ask some serious questions regarding the systems that our country has in place to protect its citizens. Through our constant research, we came to learn how the protocols were supposed to have worked. Thus, we asked for an independent commission to investigate the loopholes which obviously existed and allowed us to be so utterly vulnerable to terrorists. Our only motivation ever was to make our Nation safer. Could we learn from this tragedy so that it would not be repeated?

We are forced to respond to Ms. Coulter’s accusations to set the record straight because we have been slandered.

Contrary to Ms. Coulter’s statements, there was no joy in watching men that we loved burn alive. There was no happiness in telling our children that their fathers were never coming home again. We adored these men and miss them every day.

It is in their honor and memory, that we will once again refocus the Nation’s attention to the real issues at hand: our lack of security, leadership and progress in the five years since 9/11.

We are continuously reminded that we are still a nation at risk. Therefore, the following is a partial list of areas still desperately in need of attention and public outcry. We should continuously be holding the feet of our elected officials to the fire to fix these shortcomings.

1. Homeland Security Funding based on risk. Inattention to this area causes police officers, firefighters and other emergency/first responder personnel to be ill equipped in emergencies. Fixing this will save lives on the day of the next attack.

2. Intelligence Community Oversight. Without proper oversight, there exists no one joint, bicameral intelligence panel with power to both authorize and appropriate funding for intelligence activities. Without such funding we are unable to capitalize on all intelligence community resources and abilities to thwart potential terrorist attacks. Fixing this will save lives on the day of the next attack.

3. Transportation Security. There has been no concerted effort to harden mass transportation security. Our planes, buses, subways, and railways remain under-protected and highly vulnerable. These are all identifiable soft targets of potential terrorist attack. The terror attacks in Spain and London attest to this fact. Fixing our transportation systems may save lives on the day of the next attack.

4. Information Sharing among Intelligence Agencies. Information sharing among intelligence agencies has not improved since 9/11. The attacks on 9/11 could have been prevented had information been shared among intelligence agencies. On the day of the next attack, more lives may be saved if our intelligence agencies work together.

5. Loose Nukes. A concerted effort has not been made to secure the thousands of loose nukes scattered around the world – particularly in the former Soviet Union. Securing these loose nukes could make it less likely for a terrorist group to use this method in an attack, thereby saving lives.

6. Security at Chemical Plants, Nuclear Plants, Ports. We must, as a nation, secure these known and identifiable soft targets of Terrorism. Doing so will save many lives.

7. Border Security. We continue to have porous borders and INS and Customs systems in shambles. We need a concerted effort to integrate our border security into the larger national security apparatus.

8. Civil Liberties Oversight Board. Given the President’s NSA Surveillance Program and the re-instatement of the Patriot Act, this Nation is in dire need of a Civil Liberties Oversight Board to insure that a proper balance is found between national security versus the protection of our constitutional rights.

she's a sorry excuse for a human being. What an embarrasment to humanity. If a Dem said something like that I would think the same thing. Politics has nothing to do with it. She's just a terrible person, she's a phony, a pathological hate-filled liar and has a special place in hell reserved just for her.

35. I think we're going to have to use economic muscle against AC
I've decided that when I see that book sitting in a bookstore window, I'm going to go in the store, quietly ask to see the manager, describe what sort of rhetoric Coulter is using against people who are trying to improve our security, and ask that the book be taken off prominent display. I'll say she has a right to her opinion, but that there is no need to promote someone who is morally indefensible.

I'm also going to write to media outlets that permit her to shill her book while attacking decent, patriotic people. Again, I'm going to use the appeal to common decency.

This needs to be, as Christopher Durang wrote on the Huffington Post website, the tipping point. She simply has to be a pariah after this, period.

It's so transparent that the wingnuts chose to front who they consider some "hot blonde" to spread their hate-filled message. Stuff her with implants and squeeze her into a miniskirt and there's a whole 'nuther demographic of true believers to appeal to.

10. Coulter is the classic socio/psychopath. She does not possess
the ability to to be empathetic nor does she have the ability to comprehend loss, (except her own).
She makes a small fortune purveying hatred and disinformation. Her slander goes unchecked. She lives for the outrage, w/o it, she would be little less than a strumpet in DC, selling off her body to all comers w/a $10 bill. Being an intellectual whore is far easier on the body...but the toll taken is far deeper.

The 9-11 Widows came back immediately w/a well written response, and Coulter will try to use it to sell books rather than realize that she has been outdone on the intellectual and emotional front.

56. A personality disorder is little more than a description of...
behavior - one's way of interacting with the world. The terms "mental illness" and "personality disorder" are not synonymous.

The observation of one's media persona would seldom provide sufficient data upon which to base a diagnose. Nevertheless, it is important to recognize that mentally stable people sometimes choose to be evil. Furthermore... good, decent, kind people typically remain so after they encounter mental illness.

When you see "evil" - don't think "mental illness". If you do, you will usually be dead wrong while simultaneously stigmatizing people with mental illness.

They don't give Evil Annie the satisfaction of thinking she matters -- any apology she could give is bullshit anyway. They focus on the real problems and the reasons they have gone "political." Coulter is a mean-spirited egomaniac who likes getting attention, even if she has to crawl in the gutter to do it. The 9/11 widows made her look like the scumbag she is, without making their statement all about her -- which she would have liked.

Coulter isn't involved in serious debate and is just a sideshow in all of this. After failing at just about everything else she tried, she found a good living being the comic relief of the right, and she has no power or influence. Just a big mouth.

20. 9/11 Widows
Patty Casazza, Mindy Kleinberg, Monica Gabrielle, Kristen Breitweiser and Lori Van Auken never sought the spotlight. They were thrust into the spotlight by a senseless and horrific tragedy that that deprived them of their beloved husbands and impacted their lives in a way that no family should ever have to experience but which unfortunately too many families do. They have channeled their pain and their grief into seeking to make America safer and more secure and to making sure such a horrific tragedy never happens again and that families don't have to endure all that they have been trhough. They are selfless, courageous, wonderful people

Every word that Coulter utters against them only further diminishes her already minimal character reputation. It shows her as the hate-filled vitriolic low life that she is.

21. And once again
we are discussing Coulter, which is exactly what her objective is. You have to know that she says the most outrageous things to get people huffing and puffing all over the place. She also writes equally outrageous things for the same reason. It's to sell books and get her name out there so everyone will interview her. It's her path to fame. What else would she do to get famous? American Idol? She has no talent, she looks like a man in drag. But anyone can make outrageous inflamatory statements. How hard is that?? I believe each one of us can come up with something that would make people gasp.

Also, she's obviously on something. You don't get that skinny and behave in such a frantic manner on milk and cookies.

These women that Ann Coulter so aptly and correctly refers to are mostly, if not all, American Jews. If they got their political wishes, they would be the first raped, abused and then beheaded by the Muslim terrorists that killed their husbands. And....all of this abetted and actively aided by the current Democrat "traitor/treason" Party, whom these morons support. Go figure what idiots these women are!!! Don't let up Ann Coulter, these women and the Democrat Party they support are nothing but pure scum and vermin!!! End of story!!!

49. That's irrational.
I'm sitting here trying to find a way that the statement might make sense. It doesn't. It leaves me wondering about republicans, in general. Those so-called logical businesslike people who have called themselves conservatives. I think they are so engrossed in themselves, they can't see anything but their own failed logic. And I fail to see any rational reason in much of what they do and say. This is a very strong example.
I'm forced to think of what the words traitor and treason mean. And one thing comes to mind. An act. Something that is done. And from what I have seen, Democrats have not done anything. The closest thing to treason I can think of is the votes for the Iraq war resolution. But it's the republicans who have acted. We are the ones in the defensive position. Treason and defense are not mutually compatable. Treason is an offensive position.

Republican logic is illogical.

38. Coulter is Too Mean & Stupid to Understand
So their response was probably wasted on her. But they were slandered, so they had to stick up for themselves. Personally, I would have preferred to slap the ugly slut's face if I were them, but oh, well.

I've never heard her formulate an actual argument. Everything, and I do mean everything, with her is either a venom-soaked diatribe or a "what's up with that" feigned incredulity. She probably thinks that she's beguiling, and if so, then she clearly is stupid.

58. so true
She has never, not once, articulated any position or conservative idea. She never says anything about current events or says "hell yes this is the way we should do it." All she does is bash liberals. She probably doesn't even believe the things she says. She's certainly not living a Christian life by example, is she? Wonder if she's a virgin/celibate ?? Ugh.

72. Of course it is - that's her "act" and she has...
quite a following. She knows that she doesn't need to formulate any arguments. She and others of her ilk are nothing but modern day snake-oil salesman and what ticks me off is that in the year 2006, so many Americans are, well, so stupid!

stu·pid ( P ) Pronunciation Key (stpd, sty-)
adj. stu·pid·er, stu·pid·est

--Slow to learn or understand; obtuse. (She "gets" that she can earn quite a handsome living by spreading fear and hate to the dumbasses among us.)

--Tending to make poor decisions or careless mistakes. (I almost referenced Florida as a careless mistake but even then, I'm sure she knew exactly what she was doing and pretty much said FU to anyone who tried to get in her way. I guess that would fall under "arrogance.")

--Marked by a lack of intelligence or care; foolish or careless: a stupid mistake. (As much as I despise her, I don't think she would have graduated cum laude from Cornell, or received her J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School (member in the Order of the Coif and editor of The Michigan Law Review) without some semblance of intelligence. I don't think she comes from wealth (unlike Dim Son) and may actually have been a serious student.)

--Dazed, stunned, or stupefied. (I can't stand to watch her so I can't really weigh in on this one, but if she is any of these, it's all part of her act.)

--Pointless; worthless: a stupid job. (I'll take "worthless" for $1000, Alex!)

If you mean "beguiling" in the charm/delight sense, then I'd agree. You can tell by the hair tossing, body language, and manner of dress. And calling on big, bad college Republicans to protect her as if she were some sort of damsel in distress.

amount of money doing it, then yes, she's quite good at what she does. Just like Karl Rove. All they do is appeal to the basest of human nature. While I don't find anything particularly "genius" about what they do, they do it quite well.

She sat on The Today Show (in New York, no less), slammed 9/11 widows, and will still have a job tomorrow. That's "good."

on the part of NBC, Universal, and in my area, Stars & Stripes. We see that lack of accountability in our military leadership and the WH, and there is nothing "good" about them.

I'm still trying to pick my jaw up off the floor. Unbelievable... and she calls liberals godless? If she truly believed in god, she'd never say such things for fear of going to hell - straight to hell, do not pass go, do not collect $200.

The response from the Advocates is perfect. It addresses the issues without addressing or mentioning Coulter even once, which is as it should be. Coulter is trash. She deserves no other attention than quiet disdain.

I meant she didn't deserve more than quiet disdain from the Advocates themselves. If they answer her more directly, it invites "dialogue," which is a waste of time with Coulter. She'd just take the opportunity to spew more bile--which she's going to do anyway.

Viewers' letters to Universal and NBC are a great idea. There's no excuse for giving her such an unopposed forum for hatred. I'm just amazed no one in the audience seemed to give her a hard time for saying such horrible things. That's truly disappointing. If the studio audience didn't bother to hoot the witch off the stage, the home audience should.

81. Here you go
I sent this:

Dear MSNBC:

Re: Ann Coulter

Greetings from Germany. I work on a military base "across the pond."

Explain to me again why we have 140,000 soldiers over in Iraq, most of whom think they're there to avenge 9-11. How is it that the grieving families of the 9-11 attacks and the resultant US invasion of Iraq are now considered worthy of name calling on NBC when nearly 3,000 coalition forces have been killed in the name of "fighting terrorism?"

NBC's recent rant-fest, teaming Matt Lauer (who demonstrated today why Katie got promoted and he didn't) with Ann Coulter was nothing short of brown-shirted thuggery, on Ann's part. I suppose I should thank NBC for providing Coulter the opportunity to prove just how accurate that description of her is.

Many in the military community who read the Stars & Stripes' editorial section, in which Arianna Huffington is "pitted against" Ann Coulter for "balance," have been trying to get Coulter removed from the paper for months. Your segment with Ann (the troubled one) and Lauer is a case in point. I'm sure we'll be reading demands in "Stripes" any day now, not only to remove Ann, but the Today Show from American Forces Network. I'll be in the chorus.

Below are letters to "Stars and Stripes" complaining to the editors about Coulter. I am complaining to you directly. Unlike Matt, I do not consider Ann "fun." Perhaps Matt's summer travels should take him to Baghdad, as a wake up call that not everyone is having as much "fun" as he is--interviewing those who are simply not good at what they do.

An alternative? Interview Noam Chomsky. He's an MIT professor, and is to linguistics what Stephen Hawking is to physics. Like Ann, Chomsky has written books, but he's never on your program. Why not? Why does NBC prefer Coulter when it can have genius? Do you think your viewers are too uneducated to understand intelligent commentary?

(and they don't have the guts to say 'hell yeah!'), then what do you think will happen on the Sunday talk shows? We know they will be chock full of Republicans, as always, do you think ANYBODY will ask any single one of them if Ann Coulter speaks for THEM? 63. Aryan Annie
It looks like Aryan Nation sweetheart, Annie Coulter, has jumped the shark. Her latest screed attacks 9-11 widows because they have the temerity to question and challenge Annie's fuerher, George Bush. Annie has been a known crackpot since Bill Clinton rejected her advances a few years back. The bulimic Coulter is ranked number five on Amazon's best seller list, but how many of her books wind up in Richard Mellon Scaife's mulch pile with other reich wing "best sellers?" Annie is now living in Florida because living in New York City proved to be stressful on her pea sized brain. Now might be the time to start mailing Aryan Annie your toilet paper, preferably used and ripe.
As a disabled veteran who has been insulted by this cretin's past comments, it is incumbent on me to make that miserable asshole suffer the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune. Maybe some day our paths will cross, and if they do, Aryan Annie will get the sound beating she deserves. With pain comes awareness. Watch out Nazi whore. We're coming to get you, because if it's not me it will be someone like me, the vast majority of Americans who've had enough of you and your Nazi death cult's bullshit.
Annie (Arthur Coltrane) is what happens when a sex change operation goes haywire.

64. Much classier in response than that to which they responded.
The best part of this response is that it shows so much more class and actual concern for the real issues of safety facing America, than the fantastic LSD driven rantings that compelled the response.

In the response the widows showed once again that common sense examination of the problems surrounding out readiness for terrorism, is only partisan in the minds of those who are die hard Bush backers, because any rational examination of the subject finds the President his departments and the Congress that he controls, wanting.

bottom feeding skum sucker, "Always fun having you," at the end of the interview. Is he kidding me? That bottle blonde psycho bitch should've been dressed down by Matt the rat and had her skinny little ass nailed to the wall. Coulter was wearing at back sleeveless cocktail dress at 7 am during the interview as she vomited all over the 9-11 widows and desecrated their husband's memories. Not only did she sound like a complete loon, but she looked like a gutter slut. Her attire struck me as completely strange and I noticed Kathy Griffin pointed that out as well during her rant about that creepazoid Coulter later on the show.

86. Welcome to DU everyone!
So many new & almost new posters here. Stick around for the fireworks of the 2006 elections. No one will believe it if any (R)take office.

I am once again floored by the strength of the women who have suffered so much since that day. How did they respond? With dignity, clarity, and genuine concern for their country. I feel if they can still stand up and fight, after all the attacks they've endured,
I can too.

Please, Ann Coulter, keep spewing your bile, the mantra of snakes from (R)swamp you crawled out of. Stay the poster girl of the compassionate conservatives. I've actually witnessed a few of the most diehard on your side sickened by what you all represent.
