GOP can't stand Katherine Harris but they don't dare make her quit

As you know, the NYTimes did a big piece on how Katherine Harris is the pariah of the GOP. Here's the woman who was the most beloved in her party after helping to steal the election in 2000 now pond scum almost 6 years later. And yet, here's a senate seat in a state that has been leaning red with a purged voter list that favors the republican party and yet the GOP won't do anything to make Katherine Harris step down. Hell they didn't even attempt to challenge her in the primaries.

I'm guessing the reason for this is simple - GOP knows that Katherine Harris has the goods on them. She was there during Bush's 2000 campaign when they went to extremes to purge the voter list and create every diversion imaginable in order to ensure that less would come from people who are predominantly democratic voters. Katherine Harris was the mastermind of Florida and only she knows 100% what was done in order to secure Florida for Bush and ensure he would be pResident. Without Florida, Al Gore would be in the White House (assuming he'd win again in 2004). And Ms. Harris was properly rewarded when the former representative in her home district suddenly felt the need to 'retire' and conviently opening up a position for her. Heck, they even gave her a nice office when she came to DC - not one of the cramped offices squirreled away on the top floor but prime time real-estate on the first floor.

And the thing is, the GOP don't dare challenge her; hell I'm guess they've already tried once and she let them know she'd sing like a canary (probably even warned them that if she died 'prematurely' that she had written records somewhere that would make its way out to the public.

The crazy thing is, Delusional Katherine Harris still thinks she can win this election. She says that she'll spend up to 60mil of her own fortune in order to win. Plus, she doesn't need to be beating Nelson in the polls. Because of the massive purge in records PLUS the faulty voting systems, Ms. Harris probably just needs to be within 10% of Nelson in order to secure a victory.

So there you have it - my speculation of why Katherine Harris still runs and why the GOP will do nothing. Ms. Harris could bring down the Bush Regime if she's not kept happy.

They certainly wanted to in the worst way, they weren't shy about it. Too bad for them she isn't within 10 points...

No one wanted to challenge her in puke primary cause the wingnuts love her.

and they tried to find a more viable candidate that could beat her, but no one wanted to go through the hell it would take to even run. And, no one can "make" her quit. She has the money and she's doing what she damn well pleases since Harris is so great and wonderful in apparently only her eyes. So the GOP is stuck with her and Nelson will be Senator from Florida for another 6 years.

I don't think they can do anything and if the woman is smart and doesn't want to be 'Wellstoned' she probably has a memior tucked away with all her dirty doings that will be delivered to the NYTimes or some other major publication upon her death.

Our Ms. Harris isn't that clueless of a witch. And someone mentioned "thank goodness she's not within 10 points of Nelson". Well, we still have 5 months until the election - don't hold your breath on that one. Ms. Harris will sling mud until the everglades are completed destroyed because of lack of mud. This election will NOT be an easy win for Nelson - I can almost guarentee that!

The media keep saying he's soooo loyal to his administration...when in fact he's really being black mailed!

Bush and Co, especially Karl Rove and Jeb Bush, tried hard to recruit another challenger against Harris: Mark Foley, Allen Bense, etc. And while no one can make a candidate quit, the Republican Party has done a lot of things to her--openly sought primary challengers, doubted her ability to win, pulled fundraising, etc. If they're trying to keep her quiet by being nice to her, they're certainly not doing a good job.
