Gay Marriage Amendment Struck Down, Funny Aside...
I know this probably has been on the boards all day, but I wanted to add this link if no one has...

From iWon News

While it seems to have been just the general reporting of the issue, this one had one of those lines that just sticks in your head for its pure humor value:

"The Republican leadership is asking us to spend time writing bigotry into the Constitution," said Sen. Edward Kennedy of Massachusetts, which legalized gay marriage in 2003. "A vote for it is a vote against civil unions, against domestic partnership, against all other efforts for states to treat gays and lesbians fairly under the law."

In response, Hatch fumed: "Does he really want to suggest that over half of the United States Senate is a crew of bigots?"

Uh, dude? That's EXACTLY what he's suggesting! :applause:

It's about time SOMEONE had the brass to suggest it.

2. I think Hatch's comment is depressing.
Apparently he really doesn't view himself as a bigot. None of those people do. They're just good ol' upstanding citizens who "care" about society as a whole.

Makes me want to puke.

13. He may not view himself as a bigot...
...but I think he's going to be very disappointed about what the history books record regarding him. He's going to go down as a bigot and a leader of bigots. Schoolchildren fifty years from now will be learning what a monster he was.

3. Ah Senator, would you prefer we call it instead a cynical attempt

to divert attention away from the monumental fuckups your party is responsible for? Or how about crass pandering to the homophobic members of your party? Frankly, Senator Kennedy's description was rather mild. :eyes:

5. Sen. Hatch, What is that old joke about "If the Foo s - - - s . . . ."?
But then that presumes Hatch and his cadre have the self-awareness to know there is such a thing as a "foo" and that it defecates often.

8. Hatch was wrong, The final vote was less than half.
What was it, 49-48? Neither one is HALF the Senate.

10. Heartless, gutless bigots who hate the Constitution - but they are the
minority. The silence of the rest has allowed them far, far too much power. That MUST change.

This LTTE from 2000 spells out exactly the nature of that bigotry and its human cost:

I guess I need to take back some of the things I've said about you being monumentally stupid. Perhaps you're just breathtakingly stupid.
