Cafferty: Arlen Specter a gutless Republican worm

Cafferty: Arlen Specter: a gutless Republican worm
Once praising him, Jack sees the error of his ways and sets the record straight on Arlen Specter. I couldn't agree with you more Jack.

CAFFERTY: We better all hope nothing happens to Arlen Specter, the Republican head of the Senate Judiciary Committee, because he might be all that is standing between us and a full-blown dictatorship in this country. He's vowed to question these phone company executives about volunteering to provide the government with my telephone records and yours and tens of millions of other Americans.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

CAFFERTY: What an idiot I am. I actually thought at the time Senator Specter was going to exercise his responsibility to provide some congressional oversight of the executive branch, you know, see if the White House is playing by the rules. Silly me. In the end, Senator Specter has turned out to be yet another gutless Republican worm cowering in the face of pressure from the administration and fellow Republicans. There are not going to be any hearings. Americans won't find out if their privacy is being illegally invaded. You know what the Senate Judiciary Committee settled for instead? Senator Orrin Hatch said he has won assurances from Vice President Dick Cheney that the White House will review proposed changes to the law that would restrict certain aspects of the NSA program. Dick Cheney is going to decide if it's OK to spy on American citizens without a warrant. And this worthless bunch senators has agreed to let him do it. It's a disgrace. Here's the question: Should the phone companies be forced to testify about cooperating in a secret NSA spying program?

2. Specter does this type of thing all the time. he grandstands, gets
attention then ultimately goes the way of the administration on just about everything. He is afraid to be a real moderate Republican anymore. He just rides on his old reputation and hopes no one notices he caves all the time.

12. I've been saying that here for 4 years;& some still call Specter moderate
Arlen ALWAYS comes through for Cheney/W. The only time he actually casts a moderate vote is when the Rs don't NEED his vote. Arlen talks such a good outraged moderate game, I think he now believes himself.

8. If CNN wants to get serious about pulling out of their nose dive
they would give Cafferty a show of his own - better yet, put him in charge of The Situation Room and let Wolf do little snippets.

CNN also needs more of Christianne Amanpour and less of Paula Zahn and Larry King.

And I really miss Aaron Brown - I know a lot of people here didn't like him, but the guy was witty and intelligent and had a great show.

10. Hurrah for Cafferty.
The Beltway press incessantly portrays and judges politicians according to their reputations instead of their actions. McCain is always a "maverick," Spector is always "moderate," no matter how often they fold. It's refreshing to see someone actually pay attention to what people do.

11. Gutless Republican worm
I like the sound of that, but who were these Senators who allowed Cheney to police this matter?

13. Arlen Specter is WORSE THAN NOTHING
Edited on Wed Jun-07-06 03:43 PM by Tactical Progressive
He takes every Republican corruption and promises to get to the bottom of it. Democrats feel better.

His reassurances take everybody's outrage away while they wait for the judiciary committee to set things right.

The corruption fades into the background of all new Republican trangressions, and then he does nothing. Every single time.

A judiciary committee chairman who said "Fuck you, Republicans can spy on whoever they want." would be better.
